New Nintendo Console = Crap?

I used to be a major Nintendo fan until Gamecube. Man, that was a large dissapointment. I guess it was intended for the youger audience only.

Anyways, you guys think that the new nintendo console will be all crap? I really hope that they widen their audience instead of catering games solely to kids. XBOX only has several good games. I think I'll get a PS3, I really enjoy RPGs - just never liked their controller.

No, Nintendo has known since Playstation 1 that the only way it will have a viable market presence it to focus on the 8-15 age range. It will never survive going head to head with Xbox360 and PS3. Sony and MS will have much more money it marketing and have already secured console-specific titles (games released on only one system). Nintendo's titles are all for the 8-15 range: pokemon, metroid, mario, others. The PS3 and Xbox360 are also competing to be the center of one's home entertainment: games, movies, music, internet. Nintendo is not pressing this aspect so hard. Also, with the PSP out, the portable market will also reshift to kids. That will probably be the only way the DS survives, or probably wins, since partables are used much more by the 8-15 crowd.

i agree unless nintendo changes there attitude which i doubt. they will always be in third place. xbox and playstation will continue to fight it out.

Resident Evil 4 is for kids? Metroid Prime is for kids?

I agree Nintendo made some mistakes with the Gamecube (no online play for the most part), but if you play the games on it, they are 2nd to none. It's capable of much better graphics than the PS2, and is right on par with the Xbox (in fact, I'd say RE4 has better graphics than anything I've seen on Xbox, but I don't doubt the Xbox could pull that game off just as well)

And the Wavebird > all other controllers

The Revolution is going to hit back hard. Already confirmed to be both backwards compatible and play DVD movies (maybe Blu-Ray if that gets sorted out anytime soon). Wireless internet right out of the box, highly likely to be free online play, some sort of radical new controller design that they are keeping as under wraps as possible.

Frankly, out of Xbox 360, PS3, and Revolution, I'm by far the most curious about Revolution. The Xbox360 screens we've seen look very nice, but it's just an upgrade, not anything new or exciting. The Revolution has a chance to really be something new in the gaming world, and we'll have to see if that holds up

Nintendo for youngsters only? Whatever, Smash Brothers > All.

I think he's also forgetting Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4, which are clearly NOT for youngsters 🙂

if you can't appreciate a lot of nintendos games just becuase they seem like they have a younger appeal to them, you're pretty ignorant

and besides, eternal darkness, RE4, metroid prime, etc. ALL A+ games that arent for kids

and also, the games that do have younger appeal, SSBM, LoZ Wind waker, paper mario 2, viewtiful joe, etc. if you cant appreciate those games theres just something wrong with you

and besides, im HOPING Nintendo goes in a different direction possibly with Revolution. if Xbox360 is any indication of what PS3 will be(ie. MORE OF THE SAME), then i wont be buying consoles all together this year, that is until I see what REvolution has to offer, and I can almost guarantee its going to be worth my money

Ever since nintendo lost rareware they have had hardly any good games at all.

Nintendo still has alot of good games but Rare did have the best of the best on N64 🙁

I think it will be "crap" just because they have to have a "revolution" at all.

Nintendo aims at the 8 - 15 group way to much. I think they should have grown up with their first fans who would be in their 20's / 30's by now.

I'd rather see Nintendo change into a deidcated 3rd party game developer and dedicated portable gaming company. In those fields they can truly make a "revolution."

I don't think the biggest problem is Nintendo and their focus towards kids - but the 3rd party publishers who aren't making games for the Gamecube. Regardless whether or not the multitude of games being released for the PS2 or Xbox are good or crap, the point is that games ARE being released, and a lot of them. If I go to EB games' GC section, there is almost nothing outside of the next Zelda slated for release this year that looks even remotely interesting. But there are still tons of games being made for the PS2 and Xbox.

I'm not really sure where Nintendo went wrong to scare all the 3rd party developers away, but this needs to be fixed ASAP. The SNES (their last great console, IMO) had a lot of great 1st and 2nd party games (Mario series, Metroid, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Killer Instinct, Star Fox, etc), but it also had some of the best 3rd party games such as Castlevania, Megaman, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy which Sega didn't. These 3rd party games were as important if not more than the 1st party titles, because they kept the system alive and growing, and always varied in the type of games you could acquire. I'm not saying the GC needs more blood bath games. But it would be nice to see the support they had from the likes of Capcom, Konami, Square, and other 3rd parties, like back in the SNES days. I love my GC - but buying only one worthwhile Nintendo game a year isn't really cutting it for me.

I agree about 3rd party games. Man, the main reason I bought GC was for Zelda and another Mario. The Mario game crapped out - but the gameplay wasn't altogether that bad. Zelda was OK. For some reason I still prefer Ocarina of Time. I bought a Final Fantasy game for GC hoping it would be like FFX in PS2, that was MAJOR CRAP. Metroid Prime, I honestly din't like that much. A game I really DID enjoy was F-Zero. But other than that, they could have SERIOUSLY improved zelda, mario, and starfox. But I can't wait for the new zelda, graphics look awesome.

I agree a lot of mistakes were made with GC, but I think Nintendo sort of gets it now. The fact that the DS is silver instead of purple and was marketed with the slogan "Touching is good" is an indicator of that. The Revolution is going to be rougly the size of three DVD cases on top of each other and is going to have Wifi (conceivably free, like the DS wifi service), backwards compatability, and will probably play DVDs. Sounds more like a mainstream console than a purple cube that plays "miniature games". Also, with all the rumors of gyroscopes, stereoscopic 3D, et cetera, it seems believable that at least one of those things will happen...which would be sweet.

sure nintendo has made a few adult games. but look at adult games compare to the kiddy games they make alot more kiddy games compared to adult games. i liked mario and zelda for there creativity but thats it. if nintendo wants to make it big they need add some blood guts and gore.....i hate to put it like that but its the truth. a game like doom would never come out on game cube. im not saying every game has to have blood guts and gore but there is a rating system out there. i know stores wont sell mature games to under aged kids.

i read nintendo werent aiming to fight with the big boys (microsoft and sony)

they were targeting a different gaming audience....so their console will inevitablly be different from the pixel pushing monsters microsoft and sony will release. my guess is they just cant afford to compete

The Gamecube biggest fault, IMO, is that it has a lack if 3rd party titles. I don't really care about this "made for kids" mantra that some people have about the GC. Personally, all of the "mature" games where you go around killing people aren't that interesting to me. Most of them are very stupid, where you can predict the whole thing after the first hour or so, but this is just me. I can play FPS games on the PC, but generally not on a console so much. The only exceptions for me are Perfect Dark and Goldeneye from the N64, and the Halo series on X-Box. I really like arcade style fighting games, racing games (realistic ones like GT4 and Forza though, not F-zero and stuff like that), and some RPG's. Those are what I missed out on with the GC. It's one true savior is SSBM, becuase if you have 4 or more people, some food, and alcohol, you can play Smash Bros. forever. I really have two hopes for the Revolution:
1) Make SSB a launch or close to launch title.
2) Get 3rd party support for the genres mentioned above

I was always a fan of Nintendo. I owned everything but a n64, i thought that system was horrible, way worse then the Gamecube. Interesting point with the 3rd party games.....Mortal Kombat Deception didn't even come out for the GC. I think that the Revolution will be better than the Gamecube. Is there any leaked specs of this system? Last thing i read a while ago was that it was going to have an IBM chip and Ati graphics, so basically i'm thinking its gonna be a cut down Xbox360...what do you guys think?

about nintendo losing rare....what has rare done since they parted ways?

and i agree, its not the gamecube or nintendo, its the 3rd parties...what happened?.

if revolution will give the same awsome first party games with awsome graphics and FREE internet play, im sold (i hate paying monthly/yearly for something that should be free). ill play the xbox and ps games on the pc (especially since XNA seems to mean all xbox games will be pc games anyway). little scared about the 'revolution' though....hope its not something too out there.

as for the revolution system, i doubt it will be crap. nintedo is more than capable on the hardware front.

First of all Nintendo didn't "lose" RARE, they sold RARE for $375 million big ones and I'm sure they don't regret it. RARE released a total of 1 game for the XBOX and it sucked. Don't get me wrong, they're excellent developers but they take way too long to release their games.

Rofl. Don't bother spending $150 on a system just for 1 $50 game 😛. Go to your friends house, and play GC there or something. That's what I did with FFX/FFX2 and PS2, I borrowed the PS2.
