Now for the really good stuff, 4 new lenses!

AF-S DX 55-300mm VR (replaces the well regarded 55-200mm VR)

AF-S 85mm f/1.4 G (replaces the sharpest, creamiest lens in Nikon's lineup...big shoes to fill)

AF-S 24-120mm f/4 VR (finally replaces Nikon's sub-par full-frame kit lens with something that will hopefully be on par with Canon's excellent 24-105 f/4 L)

AF-S 28-300mm VR (a full-frame all-in-one zoom)

the D3000 does not have live view.
is it a safe assumption to make that the D3100 also will not have live view?

never mind, just clicked the link and saw that it will.
hoping it will be 24/30fps in 1080p mode.

well rumor is your gonna see a D95 also. should announce it in the middle of Sept along with a new 200 f/2 :drool;

the D90 replacement is gonna be really nice. I love how Nikon and Canon leap frog each other on camera bodies.

200 f2, i can only dream.

D3100 costs less, has more advanced AF and metering, continuous AF in Live View, more dedicated controls (less menu diving).

T2i has a better LCD, slightly more resolution, will AF with all EF lenses.

shouldn't there be a D400 fairly soon or would it not be a big enough upgrade even now?

too new, the D300s isnt that old

the D700 will see an update before the 300. and we aren't getting that in 2010

Question, will the D3100 take better pictures? Everything I've read says the D3000 is weak compared to the D5000/T1i/T2i. I'm really hoping the D3100 is an upgrade vs the D3000 in that department. There is a new sensor I believe, so I hope that will help...

new sensor. This should blow out the old D3000. If the rumors are true, this would be the same sensor as Sony's NEX series.

Wait for the reviews but i bet the D3100 is gonna be better than the D5000.

To me, EXPEED 2 is the most important thing and I'm eager to see it.
Auto white Balance and Color reproduction was just way too horrible for me to like Nikon cameras. Now that it's EXPEED 2, I hope those factors are changed for better.

I doubt there are any big changes from EXPEED 1 to 2 besides increased horsepower.

Not that I care; I like Nikon colors/WB. And judging by Nikon's DSLR sales, so do a lot of people.

At the risk of hijacking the thread, my uncle is looking to buy a SLR. He's coming from P&S, will most likely just shoot on auto and I doubt will buy any lens other than what came with the camera. So, will the D3100 be overkill?
