:D Thanks for the heads-up Adul!

These should fix the SW IDE drivers, and hopefully bring Asus owners into the UDA fold. Gonna check out the release notes when I get home.

Elaborate, please? What's SW? Which asus owners (nf2 I hope) ? Are any of these fixes you are referring to related to nforce1 boards?

SW is some acronym (I forget the abbrevs.) that is supposed to give the IDE drives full access to the hypertransport bus and increase overrall IDE performance. From what I recall, it didn't play so nicely with some configurations in WinXP (IDE drives were recognized as SCSI, causing problems). I've been using the Asus 1.16's, so I can't comment on what issues were involved, but I'm pretty sure they did not perform as well as intended.

As for Asus Nforce2 DLX owners, Asus had a proprietary version of the UDA's b/c their MCP-T controllers deviated from reference specs to accomodate more features. As a result, you could run into sound issues if you ran the nVidia 2.0 UDAs. I'm not sure there were any other major differences though other than the SW Performance IDE drivers (Beta and non-WHQL).

You first, Sir. PM me if necessary, please. :)

OK, Adul, I'll explain, but ONLY b/c you're so cool.

Insane3D and I have chatted quite a bit on many things. He's helped me to build a cool, yet quiet case. He's helped me w/my NForce OCing and issues...he is my...my...MENTOR! :Q Yes, I follow him around as he traverses the United States, but he is kind and caring soul....always throwing me a tip or two to squeeze that last FPS out of my videocard. I'll admit, the statue I have of him on top of my monitor freaked him out, but hey, such is the price of stardom!!!!

He tests all the new stuffs out first and let's me know if it's safe to proceed. :D

I installed them on an nForce "classic" earlier today, working fine so far (but it's an office rig so I'm not able to test 3D video or fancy audio, of course.

There weren't wholesale changes to the entire driver package, just certain components (you can check by comparing the driver revisions).

Off the top of my head:

1) They fixed the sound drivers to be fully compatible with the Asus A7N8X DLX supporting the addtional features Asus added with their proprietary 1.16 UDP. Release notes also say performance improvements.

2) Audio utilities upgraded (probably to support disabled features in 2.0

3) They upgraded the MCP-T MAC driver

4) Dets upgraded to 41.13 WHQL

I didn't see any changes to their MCP-T IDE or PCI drivers. No change either to the GART, SMBus, and memory controller drivers. No mention of SW IDE driver changes, but I still had the option to install them.

oh well, live and learn :p

As long as you're running Windows, you'll need driver updates :p

Bump for more individuals' results. If all OK, I will install tonight. Stupid question:

Do I have to uninstall anything before installing these, or do I just throw the new ones right on top of the old ones?
