I temporarily installed W98 original on my partition while waiting for XP Pro to come.

I used the Abit driver install program. It seems that program installs funny.
It will run through the installation of drivers, asking for directories, but as you are trying to direct it to the proper place (my Win98 folder being on the HD), it seems as though it runs yet another install in the background interrupting me.

When I try to continue the first one, it says installation failed.

I have no audio at least in this setup. I don't have internet yet so can't test the MCP network adapter problem.

Is this a BIOS needing updating issue?

I hope the install of XP Pro will resolve this.

AFAIK, Abit doesn't offer chipset drivers for win98 (original). Those drivers are for win98se. My guess is that is your problem.

If you can get a copy of win98se I can help you with the install process, cuz the installer is a bit glitchy, but not what you seem to mention. Even with 98se you'll need a sound patch I can link for you if you get 98se on there.

BIOS update won't help.

S/B no prob with winXP

I should have paid for at least 2 day delivery. It looks like XP will not arrive until Friday when I expect my cable internet to be connected.

For some reason they insist this time around to check the installation, when I had it before as a self install.
This means I need to have a working computer by the time the technician arrives on Friday.

If XP helps me to at least have a good install that will be fine for the time being. I will just have to reschedule the internet installation yet again.
