Well now it seems that the G70 is to be based on 90nm....isnt that interesting!! looks like the yields on this were quite good for both nvidia and ATI to take this route! this means this next round battle could be even closer than expected :)
any predictions now on how much it could be clocked?? 550 - 600??

Info is here

So is that good or bad? I know it's supposed to be good news, but look at what happened to Intel's 90nm debacle

Well, I would hope the 90nm process is mature enough at this point to use without problems.....then again, GPU's are quite a bit more complex than CPU's these days, as far as transistor count...I hope that's not bad for yields.

I don't think it will. The 90nm process has been around for a while now. Enough time to refine the process and work out all the bugs.

ya i doubt nvidia would make the same mistake twice!! must be mature by now

I think it will be clocked somewhere around 650mhz, because they had to downclock it in PS3 which is 550mhz in order to manage the heat. In pcs its a different story.

Whoa man, can't wait to see the real specs on these mofos. But the real deal will be of course good availability and pricing. Plus really good games I like that will require a G70/R520. Otherwise my 6800 GT is ready to rock for the next two years!

Whatever happened to ATI's special Black Diamond insulator core? They used it on 9600XT cores only. Those cores ran at 500mhz long ago, and they would overclock quite a bit too. That was at .13u too.

I doubt that, unless you play at 1024x768. In two years the 6800GT will be about what a GeForce4Ti 4200 is now. However, I bet a year from now you will be able to pick up a decent G70 based card for around $300. My biggest concern this next generation is that I have not yet moved to PCIe, so I will have to replace my motherboard/cpu as well if I want to get a new video card. Given that, there need to be some strides made in cpu performance that justifies the cost. Sure there are procs out there that out perform my P4, but there is nothing that my P4 can do that a new proc can do that much quicker, and 64-bit is still a non-issue IMO.

Nvidia is still keeping quiet about the final spec of the chip but we know it's a 90 nanometre chip and that it's likely that it will have at least 10MB of cache memory. ATI's Xbox 360 chip has exactly the same 10MB as you need to have enough buffer to render HDTV picture quality games.
...
We also learned that the G70 is getting ready and that Nvidia is just a month or so away from releasing the chip. We expect that the G70 won't have 10MB of cache like its Playstation chip brother, as this is just too expensive to make at this point.

So which one is it?

Edit: disregard that. they were talking about the "other" PS3 G70 having 10 MB of cache.

nitromullet, I dont think you have to worry since I bet both G70 and R520 will be AGP. It would simply not make any sense given that AGP community is still larger than PCIe one.

Besides your 3.4C is probably a decent overclocker. I bet hat puppy will get to 3.7ghz. Even then a P4 3.0ghz with G70 will smoke A64 4000+ and X850xt pe in just about any game.
