Occasionally I see threads on music but they're rarely decent collections of information - unless you're looking to see what someone is listening to at that time, a couple lines of poorly transcribed lyrics, or maybe a few censored close-ups of the cooter on a bitchy, psycho ex-diva who's plumped up by about six buckets of lard.

So, I'm creating this thread that will focus on new (upcoming or recent) albums/music by any and all artists who have fans here. :) I'll start off with a few things regarding albums that will be coming, then they can be discussed, different albums can be mentioned, general ATOTer comments ("lol that band is ghey u shuld listnen 2 Fall out Boi,) etc...

******************************

Artist: BEASTIE BOYS
New Album Title: THE MIX-UP
Release Date: July 10th, 2007
Information Known:
Album Cover
It's a 100% instrumental album, and has been described as sounding like, "an unreleased Pink Panther soundtrack" which basically described the excellent jazzy instrumentals they had in between standard tracks on previous albums, something that their last album (To the 5 Boroughs) was obviously void of. Here's the tracklisting:

B for My Name
14th St Break
Suco de Tangerina
The Gala Event
Electric Worm
Freaky Hijiki
Off the Grid
The Rat Cage
The Melee
Dramastically Different
The Cousin of Death
The Kangaroo Rat

Rumors:
Mix Master Mike supposedly did absolutely no work on this album. There will also most likely be a U.S. tour (or at least a few tour dates) to support the album.

---------------------------------------------

Artist: ACE OF BASE (yeah, aaaahahahahahaha)
New Album Title: UNKNOWN
Release Date: SPRING 2008
Information Known: Not much. Lynn (the blond who did most of the singing in the original releases) will be laying down vocals but most likely will not tour - but there WILL be a "world tour" to support the album.
Rumors: Not a whole lot of info around... Just that they're writing a LOT, recorded quite a bit, and will be putting the album out for sure this time.

---------------------------------------------

Artist: GARBAGE/SHIRLEY MANSON
New Album Title: GREATEST HITS/SOLO
Release Date: LATE 2007
Information Known: First off, Garbage recorded several tracks in Feb/March as new material that they will be including as bonus songs on an upcoming Greatest Hits album that should hit later this year. Also, Shirley Manson has been recording many tracks on her own as a solo project (talk with a dozen+ producers, including Butch Vig of Garbage - go figure). The solo supposedly is shaping up extremely well.
Rumors: The solo album, as well as the Greatest Hits, should hit late 2007.

---------------------------------------------

Artist: THE CRYSTAL METHOD
New Album Title: UNKNOWN
Release Date: ~Within a year, hopefully
Information Known: They've been working on it for quite a while, and are in their brand new studio. It will be the official follow-up to Legion of Boom.
Rumors: None.

---------------------------------------------

Artist: THE PRODIGY
New Album Title: UNKNOWN
Release Date: SUMMER 2007 - Probably later, as not much info is available yet.
Information Known: "Fresh sound" to new album which will be released on their own record label, "Ragged Flag."
Rumors: Not much, but I can't wait! :)

---------------------------------------------

Artist: INSANE CLOWN POSSE
New Album Title: THE TEMPEST
Release Date: MARCH 2007 ALREADY OUT
Information Known: Sucks. Last album they put out that was good was Jeckel Bros. from 1999 - They're too stoned, old, and lazy to do anything decent anymore. Unless you HAVE to have it, avoid at all costs.

Adam Yauch, Mike Diamond and Adam Horowitz, the original 3. They are all very accomplished musicians, you know. I'm pretty sure they wrote/produced/performed everything on this new one.

Also, several people have heard the album already and have nothing but praise for it - not sure why it's taking so long to get it out, though. :(

SOCIAL DISTORTION TO RELEASE GREATEST HITS JUNE 26

Social Distortion are set to release their FIRST EVER career spanning collection on June 26. Time Bomb Recordings will release the Greatest Hits on CD and limited edition vinyl. Classic songs from every classic album are represented in this definitive retrospective (track-listing below). Covering Social Distortion's three decade long career, Greatest Hits showcases the best in band leader Mike Ness' heart-on-the-sleeve songwriting. Their classic cover of Johnny Cash's ?Ring Of Fire? is included as well.

?Far Behind,? is the hard charging new song recorded just for this collection and is the album's lead single - hitting the airwaves May 15. The band will tour worldwide in support of the Greatest Hits album. More dates to be announced through 2007.

Another State Of Mind
Mommy's Little Monster
Prison Bound
Story Of My Life
Ball And Chain
Ring Of Fire

Bad Religion To Release New Album
New Maps of Hell

Punk rock institution BAD RELIGION began recording NEW MAPS OF HELL, the follow-up to 2004's heralded THE EMPIRE STRIKES FIRST at Grand Master Studios in Los Angeles in mid-February, just as Greg Graffin was giving midterms at his other job: professor of Life Sciences at UCLA. The lead singer and co-writer laughs, "when I was an undergrad and a graduate student at UCLA, I used to play and write with Bad Religion at night. Now, I'm back to that schedule as a professor."

Slated for a July 10 release, NEW MAPS OF HELL is co-written with Epitaph head Brett Gurewitz, and produced by Grammy-nominated producer Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer). Much of the new material will be debuted to expectant crowds on the main stage of the 2007 Van Warped Tour. Gurewitz states, "we all liked the concept of maps, because we are exploring new material on this record, both musically and topically." Quite a feat for a band that has been around for 25+ years.

Recently, following a successful tour of Canada with the Dropkick Murphys at the end of 2006, the revered punk band also headlined the kickoff event for the upcoming Warped Tour exhibit, Warped: 12 Years of Music, Mayhem and More at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on January 26th in Cleveland, Ohio.

In addition to writing for Bad Relgion, Graffin recently authored a book with Arkansas history professor Preston Jones. Provocatively titled Is Belief In God Good, Bad or Irrelevant? A Professor and A Punk Rocker Discuss Science, Religion, Naturalism and Christianity (IVP Books), the tome catalogs the email correspondence between the two. Jones, a seminal punk fan, initially contacted Graffin by email, prompting the conversations that spawned the book.

Considered Epitaph's flagship band, Bad Religion recorded for several major labels before returning to their indie home in 2001. NEW MAPS OF HELL is their 14th full-length release.

Seeing "Ace of Base" and "New Music" in the same sentence almost made my head explode.

I don't have a link to a press release, but Opeth is planning a new live DVD for release sometime this fall, and they're also working on a new album (release date unknown). Woohoo!

Dear all,

we enjoyed a fantastic four month in Los Angeles, california, recording the songs for our new album HUMANITY-HOUR1. The mixing is making great progress as we speak. Very soon, the new album will be completely mixed and mastered and ready to be shipped across the world. The official release date is expected to be in the 2nd half of may, but may vary from country to country, so make sure you check with your local record company or record store. It felt great for all of us to hit the stage again and rock the house as we did March 2nd at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow. Thanks again to a great audience! After spending quite some time in the studio, we are definetely ready to go out on the road again.,

The song "Humanity" will definately appeal to Scorpion fans, its a classic Scorpions tune with all the elements working. Klaus vocals are superb, thoughtful lyrics and the music fits perfectly...I like it alot! I've not heard enough of the rest to comment yet, but if Humanity is any indication, this could be a great one.

I see its being released on Vinyl as well :)
