I just bought a new MSI kt4 ultra kt400 motherboard to upgrade from my ECS k7s5a...I have a radeon 8500, athlon xp 1800, 384 ddr ram, nic and a Volcano 7.

My problems: First problem is that the mobo doesnt see the CPU fan running...even though i see it spinning.

Second: The motherboard doesn't see the pri master, pri slave, sec master, or sec slave drives. There is a 40 gig seagate @ 7200rpm on the pri master IDE1, and a CD-ROM 52x Aopen on the sec master IDE2. They are both not detected.

Thirdly: What I think is causing these problems is that the jumpers work only on the CMOS pins 2,3...which are the incorrect settings (the computer shouldn't even turn on, when the jumpers are on those pins). I cannot get into the BIOS when the CMOS settings are incorrect. When I put the jumpers on the correct settings, pin 1,2 - the computer doesnt even turn on. Is my CMOS totally screwed?? The jumpers came on the motherboard on the wrong pins.

I thought it could be a psu prob...but i took off all the non-essentials...and i still get the same problems.

I'm going to call MSI on monday if I can't find an answer on these forums. I'm in DESPERATE NEED OF HELP!!!

-Thanks for responding

BIOS upgrade man! 1st thing always! After that, make sure the IDE channels are turned on in the BIOS. If it doesn't see the CPU fan speed, then the fan power is most likely not plugged into the "CPU_FAN" plug on the mobo. If you're using a molex connection for your Heatsink/Fan you won't get a reading at all.

How do I update??? Do I use flash boot??? I'm not that good with flash, if one messes up with flash BIOS, there is not getting the mainboard back.
