After update I see: Security Essentials Version: 4.0.1526.0

I like the simpler / "classic" look. Hopefully this one is lighter on resources also.
 
Odd. I'm still on version 2 I guess. I didn't even know there was a 3, and I like to stay on top of that kind of stuff.
 
Hmm I got the Windows Update and installed but I think I was on version 2.

Seems the versioning is based on the Antimalware Client Version and they just updated the Security Essentials Version to match.
 
im still on 2.1! wtf? i keep up on all windows updates too... this is actually a new install. whatever. uninstalling now!

I just re-installed my system fresh less than a month ago, meaning I downloaded the latest version of MSE in early April from Microsoft's website. I also was on v2.1 and just now updated to v4.0.

It would appear zokudu's thought above is correct.
