Odd. I'm on version 2 and Windows / Microsoft Update doesn't show an MSE update available.

After update I see: Security Essentials Version: 4.0.1526.0

I like the simpler / "classic" look. Hopefully this one is lighter on resources also.

Odd. I'm still on version 2 I guess. I didn't even know there was a 3, and I like to stay on top of that kind of stuff.

The upgrade borked MSE and I'll have to restart before trying again. Error code unknown to google. Nice :)

Seems the versioning is based on the Antimalware Client Version and they just updated the Security Essentials Version to match.

Did you try to uninstall, restart and then manually download/install?

Nope, just looked at Windows Update.

Then when it borked, it removed the old version but left me in limbo. I just installed the new version this morning.

I just re-installed my system fresh less than a month ago, meaning I downloaded the latest version of MSE in early April from Microsoft's website. I also was on v2.1 and just now updated to v4.0.

It would appear zokudu's thought above is correct.
