I'm in the market for a new MP3 player, perferably video, photo, large capacity, an Ipod is in consideration but a little pricey I was hopeing around $250. No nano's. I'd like a dock or cradle of some sort (not required but preffered).

I was looking at the Toshiba Gigabeat 20GB. Text

Yeah id dont see any reason to buy anything but the creative vision m. Ive had mine a couple months and it has been better than id hoped for.

I don't know, I obviously like iPods myself but I was playing around with a buddy's creative zen vision M... they're pretty much a clone of the iPod video with more features I guess...

We like to argue about what's better and whatnot, but I at least think it's pretty nifty (I still like my iPod better but whatever)

The creative has better battery life and can use alot more video and audio formats. No itunes required.

It's also thicker IMHO...

I thought the battery life for both of them was pretty close?

Something that is USB mass storage, doesnt require drivers/software. You will appreciate that the most. I would recommend an iRiver H120 like I have but they dont make them anymore. So if you get it off eBay there is no warranty, which I assume you would want.

Get a refurbished 30gb ipod video from overstock, I got one for 230 back in early may. Works great. It is 250 right now, but I think there might be an overstock.com coupon floating around.

Here is a link to 10% off any order.

Be warned that it is through overstock (who usually suck), and this is not an official apple ipod refurb, so it only comes with a 30 day warranty. however, I like taking risks 😉

iPod for durability and for a year warranty instead of Creative's shady "we know it'll break" 90 days.

Something else if you're one of the 5 people here that think renting unlimited music through Napster for $15 a month is actually a decent deal.

I had an Ipod w/ Video (60 gb, black) and looooved it... It was stolen recently (well, my entire bag was) and I could only afford a toshiba gigabeat 40gigger - i can't tell you the model number because the paint chipped off in only 2 months! But it was only $185 so it was a fair deal.

Here's my run down of MP3 players:
iPod video - loved it but the battery life SUCKED... But that's the price you pay for a thin profile

giggabeat - chunky but that means that the battery life is actually pretty good. No video playback but I don't watch videos.. the interface is sometimes smooth and sometimes
frustrating.. The touchpad just isn't consistant

Creative Labs Zen, Zen Touch - CREATIVE SUCKS.. I can't stand the overly sensitive touch panel on the touch, the build quality that meant that I had to replace both in months not years and the freezing problems both developed over time.. GRR! Maybe they've gotten better, but I had to call them for a HD Error problem and they said they couldn't help me because the warranty was only 90 days...

Archos - have had the original jukebox and the gmini. I'm impressed with how the build quality increased over the years.. my jukebox felt cheap and plasticy while the gmini 400 that I had felt solid and was feature packed. I liked my gmini 400 quite a bit but had drunken fall with it, shattering it (not the fault of the player - i slammed into it with my shoulder, after dropping it)..

iPods - always return to them. My gen 1 still works and i'm sure I'll get their next one once this toshiba breaks.. which will be in 3 months, i'm sure.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I think I'm gonning to wait another month or two, see what all comes out. Right now I am leaning toward an Ipod, Iriver or Vision.

toshiba gigabeat S.... better ui than the ipod (and it doesnt scratch by looking at it like the ipod does.... the gigabeast is much much better from a scratch resistant perspective) and will play media center content natively.

Gigabeat S looks good, but basically sucks more. http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives...06/toshiba-gigabeat-s30-s60-review.php

Actually just got my 60GB Gigabeat S a few days ago and I am absolutely in love with it, particularly after the nightmare I had with the Zen I bought Thread though that one was probably defective, I just never fell in love with the Zen.

I love the Gigabeat S UI, the controls, plus it is waaayy less chunky than the Zen and I can use the controls without having to pull the whole thing out of my pocket. Also WMP11 just works beautifully with it.

I highly recommend the Gigabeat S, so far anyway, will report back if I run into problems.
