New Motherboards: Where To Get I/O Shields?

Having had my FIC AD11 and Lian Li PC60 case for almost 2 years, the answer to this question may be obvious to some.

Newer motherboards are including multiple on-board USB, ethernet, veritcally stacked audio ports, and sometimes, doing away with the old serial, parellel or PS/2 ports.

There seems to be an expanding variety of I/O configurations, beyond the old standard layouts:

So, for a motherboard such as the new A7V8X:

Where do you get "custom" I/O shields for your case? Do some MBs now provide them, and if so, what about those that don't? My Lian Li came with 1 Caveman shield, and neither Asus or any review I've read mention a shield being included with the MB.

A minor detail I know, but I'm curious. Please don't tell me about cutting your own shield from aluminum scrap, or wrapping foil around the back of your ports. :p

Thanks,

My A7V333 has a layout like the A7V8X except no LAN port, and it comes with the appropriately-designed I/O shield. I expect that will be the case with other non-traditional layouts too, the mobo will come with it, while the cases will still usually come with a traditionally-designed one as well.

Let me add that Newegg.com's "See It!" pages are a real help in determining exactly what a mobo comes with. example for A7V333

edit: also, welcome to the Forums!

Thanks :D

2 seconds after I posted, I saw the packing list for the A7V8X, which includes the shield. Guess they think of everything (at least Asus).

:p

Its not just Asus. Pretty much every Motherboard company inlcudes them. Including my Gigabyte.

Anyone figure out where individual i/o shields can be purchased? I just bought a K7S5A from Newegg and it came without an i/o shield. The shield on my case doesn't have an opening for the network connector, so I can't fully use this motherboard without the correct shield in place. Customer service at ECS says they can't help - all they do is get the boxes from Taiwan. Customer service at Newegg was also no help - they say none of their K7S5A motherboards in stock come with i/o shields. My case manufacturer (Antec) says they don't stock i/o shields beyond the standard ones that come with their cases. I've purchased this motherboard several times before and its always come with an i/o shield. So, short of returning the board and buying it elsewhere (and hoping the replacement board comes with a shield), does anyone know where I can obtain an i/o shield that works with this board? Thanks.

What he said. K7S5A's come with the I/O shield unless you bought a refurbed one.

my albatron PX645PEV Pro didn't come with one, but luckily my old Athlon Mobo used the same layout
