I just put together my Athlon system. I tried to format my Wester Digital 15.3gig hard drive using its software - Data Lifeguard Tools. Then the program says my motherboard - Asus K7V - does not support hard drives over 8gig. What is that about? It prompts me to install this EZ Bios tool but I have heard horror stories about installing that utility. Should I just go ahead and install EZ Bios (this modifies parts of your HD where normal reformatting won't work - so that's a big risk)? Or should I just upgrade to the newest bios revision (and will it work even though I don't have anything installed yet - ex windows, dos, etc)?

The ez-bios overlay software is safe to use. If your mobo maker has a newer bios that allows you to use hard drives larger that 8 gig, then you should do a bios update instead of using the EZ-bios overlay software.

If you don't want to update the mobo bios, then install the ez-bios software from the WD floppy disk. YOu can always delete it afterwards if you wish to, using the floppy again. THere is a uninstall option in there.

What's odd is that the K7V is pretty new (made about 6 months or so) and why doesn't it support 8gb+ HD? or is the software messed up?

I got the same message using Data Lifegaurd tools on my 15 gig WD drive. It was on a new Soyo 6ba+1V board ,I new the message was bogus so I closed DLT.Then formatted using a standard Windows boot disk. Toro:)
