Hi,

if you want an Intel CPU:

Pentium D, 3.2 ghz, dual core, includes heatsink/fan:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116262

$105.

One of these motherboards:

However, in your price range, while the Intel Core 2 Duos are great chips, AMD has much better values at the low end.

Recommend:

One of these AMD processors:

Motherboard:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productco...27%2CN82E16813138041%2CN82E16813131042

AMD CPUs much cooler, cheaper, quieter than the old Pentium Ds in your price range.

Would recommend this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128049

However: I *would* recommend one of the new low power (65W) AMD socket AM2 CPUs: I like the AMD heat sink arrangement better--it's easier to attach to the motherboard...trust me. And, I think because they run cooler, these CPUs are quieter:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productco...41%2CN82E16819103749%2CN82E16819103068

And one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productco...43%2CN82E16813135049%2CN82E16813186105

Given your $160 dollar Mobo/CPU limit, I would recommend:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135049

$70

plus

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16819103733

$75 or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103741

$100....

Compare the $100 AMD to the 100$ Pentium D:

Price per performance, 50% games, 50% applications:

http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=438&model2=469&chart=195

AMD wins.

Unreal tournament (similar to CNC? Not sure....)

http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?...elx=33&model1=438&model2=469&chart=167

AMD wins.

Multitasking: AMD wins:

http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=438&model2=469&chart=192

Anyway, just based on the ease of working with the AMD heatsink versus the stock Intel heatsink: I vote AMD for the win....
