Right I have a P3 500 with 256MB RAM, various HDDs, which are both IDE and SCSI. I have heard a few things that worry me and they are that you can't do moytherboard changes etc. under Windows XP. I am moving to a KT133 chipset athlon system (1.1GHz) and want to just swap the board and watch XP redetect everything. Will it do this or am I going to have to re-install everything again :(

You should always do a clean install anytime you install a new motherboard........thats common practice........but it mgiht work........I had swapped a Shuttle AK31A board with a MSI K7T266-PRO and it worked fine......but they both use the same chipset.

yeah i would go ahead and reinstall windows, like human2k, i have only gotten the swap to work when the boards have the same chipset.

Mmmm that's what I thought, I have normally done re-installs, but this time I have just got things how I want them, all software installed, all patches applied etc. and don't particularly want to go through it all again....

Oh well time to upload Windows XP to the RIS server on the network tomorrow and blast it down off the network. Ah in actual fact if I take a RIS image of my machine at the moment and upload that to the server. Then swap the board and re-load my image off the server, won't that do the hardware installation process again? And things should be sweet??
