I've just switched out my asus p5b-e plus for a p5q-e. I could not do anything pre-upgrade to make Vista play nice, as the bios got corrupted and so I had to get a new board (and they don't make/sell the p5b any more).
It boots fine, everything seems good in the bios, but obviously vista doesn't like these unannounced changes.
Vista Ultimate x64 goes BSOD in the middle of loading, XP x64 (which I don't really use any more) gets as far as the login screen, but the USB keyboard and mouse doesn't seem to work (keyboard works inside BIOS).
Apart from the motherboard, all the hardware is the same as before, but my sata drives are probably connected in a different order to the data ports, if that even matters.
I can use all sorts of boot CDs etc. I'm trying to repair/upgrade with the install CD now, but I don't think it'll work. "Attempting repairs".

update: "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically"
3 of the 10 problem signatures: external media, bad driver, wrp repair
The rest are just cryptic numbers.
