Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting a new monitor, preferably a LCD. However, I like to play games such as Counter-Strike or BW. I would like a monitor which can keep up w/ my gaming and I plan to hook it up to a good vid card like a Radeon 8500 or GeForce4. I don't want there to be ghosting or any irregular shading. Can you guys help me out?

You don't want an LCD for gaming unless you're content playing games at its native resolution. You see, an LCD monitor only displays properly at its native resolution. Get yerself a 19" or 21" Aperture Grille monitor made either by Sony, Mitsubishi or ViewSonic for less than the price of a 15" LCD and then you can run games at any resolution you want.

Either card is good but I'm particular with ATI. You can grab an ATI RADEON 128MB 8500 for alot less than any of the GeForceTi lineup.

So basically, what you are saying is that if I want to be able to play Counter-Strike or any other 3D games, I should stick w/ a reg monitor because LCD monitors are not meant for gaming?

check into a compaq p910 (19" crt)
it's a diamondtron(mitsubishi) flat screen crt, will do up to 1920X1440, i run mine at 1600x1200 85 Hz
nice picture quality, perfectly flat screen
i was able to pick one up for 150 plus shipping about a month ago
they're cheap cause compaq brought out the p920 (read the spec sheet and don't remember any real performance improvements)
save yourself a little more to put towards the graphics card

exactly. at least not yet but Hercules makes one that's supposed to be pretty good.

in any case, stick with CRT for now.

Where did you get your deal on the p910? I would like to get one like that but I can't find any at the sites I purchase from. That's a great deal considering I saw the p920 for $491.

found it for 219 at cdw.com...link
compared the specs to the 920 again...the only differences i see are a different outside casing and $300 price difference
now you just have to decide what sticker you want to put over the compaq logo...i have a section of the label from a keg of Guinness taped over Mine :D
i much prefer having a Guinness Draught monitor to a Compaq

There are good LCD"s that wont have any ghosting, at least not noticeable.. but those are high end 18" and 19" LCD's. (i've never actually seen one, but some ppl have been talking about these around there). Those will run you probalby 700-800+. And with that, you can get a very nice 21incher CRT, or save the money, get a 19incher and pick up a good vid card.
