Hey,

I'm thinking about getting either a 34" 21:9 aspect ratio either 1080p or 1440p. I don't know if there's a huge difference in size, but 1440p is also a lot more resolution to be pushing for my gtx 660 haha, and i really want to get a decent monitor before getting a new gpu as i have been using a small lg tv until now. This monitor would be mainly for things like editing videos, watching movies and a bit of gaming but not on the levels of gta or cod as i have a ps4 for that. I was looking at monitors like this: Lg 34um68 or Lg 34uc87c but i dont know whether the 3440x1440 and the curved screen is worth the extra money.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 32" 3440x1440 and I love it. The screen space is amazing and you can have two documents basically "full size" side by side on it. I'd highly recommend going for the higher resolution if the price isn't too much higher.

I have a 34" 2560x1080 LG 34UM67 which runs at 75hz and has FreeSync and it's great. I was using a 27" 1080p before, so the resolution doesn't bother me. I think it's the perfect size for gaming, although if you have money to spare then I'd recommend a 3440x1440 resolution. I would definitely spring for a FreeSync or GSync version of whatever 21:9 monitor you get.

3440x1440 is pretty expensive, especially with a curved screen aswell. Maybe i could find a flat 3440x1440 panel, and about gsync and freesync, most lg panels have freesync and i've got a nvidia card but will probably upgrade and if i get a freesync monitor i could switch to an amd card, whereas gsync monitors are so expensive, i just dont think they are worth the extra money.
Does anyone know what the cheapest 3440x1440 34" ultrawide would be?

Probably not, though I don't know what model you are looking at.

IPS, 34" ultrawide usually don't go under $700-800 depending on if they have freesync as well or not. GSync version is usually $250-300 more.

I was talking about this model Dell U3415W, but yeah its at 700 now down from 1,200 so most likely not going to drop more and i dont want to spend that much on a monitor to be perfectly honest, although im still thinking about that Lg 34um68 monitor. It's priced at around 400 right now as it is on sale down from 600. Yes it is 2560x1080 but will i really notice that much of a difference, and i was really looking into this and people saying that on some games even a gtx 980ti wont push these pixels (3440x1440) at 60 fps and 2 gpu are needed for this. Of course i will be upgrading my gtx 660 but not for a while so will i benefit from getting a 3440x1440? If someone could look into that lg 34um68 monitor and please tell me if it is worth it as i have been reading so many reviews on it and really dont know what to think about it.

-Thanks.

Once you get a bigger and higher resolution monitor you'll wonder how you ever lived without one.

I was debating getting the 1440 21:9 or a 4k 16:9 and I went with the 4k LGUD88 over the LG ultrawide offerings.

If I only had one monitor I'd go ultrawide in a heartbeat. Like the above poster said, having two documents side by side is awesome.

If you can afford it, get a a 1440 ultrawide. If the LG versions are as nice as the 4k LG, you'll love it. Mine is fantastic.

What you miss with the 68 series over the 88 series is some adjustability of the screen and some USB3 connectivity. Though it does save you about $100.

Either of your choices are good. Freesync is great. And you can even hack the Freesync refresh rate lower than the 48 listed.

I was mistaken. I was thinking the difference in the 4k monitors between the 68 and 88 series. The 68 doesn't have USB 3.0 or any adjustments other than tilt. I was able to get my 88 for $100 more than the 68.

It doesn't look like LG sells a 1440 ultrawide without USB. The 68 ultrawide series doesn't have USB but it's also not 1440. It's just a 1080 ultrawide. Confusing nomenclature.

Personally, I wouldn't get a 1080 ultrawide.

However, if you only have one monitor and can't afford the $300-400 more for the 1440 ultrawide, then the 34um68 seems like a fine monitor.

It's a huge chunk of screen real estate. Just be aware of a few things:

1. It's only an 8 bit panel. (likely not an issue)
2. It's IPS. (I love IPS and hate TN, so that's a good thing)
3. Because it's IPS the refresh rate tops at 75 Hz.
4. It's Freesync (good, IMO. With a range of 40-75 Hz)
5. Because it's only 1080 ultrawide, you can drive it easily with a 480.
6. The actual height of the screen is almost identical (and may actually be identical) to that of a 27" 1920x1080 monitor.
7. Because of the above, the DPI is the same. It's actually quite low, though that may or may not be a good thing.
8. It doesn't have USB connectivity. Which is either an unfortunate missing feature or money you don't have to spend on a feature you'll never use.

I dont think i will mind the height of the screen that much and i probably wont be using the usb feature so this monitor might be a good choice for me. Thank you so much for that reply guachi and all of the rest of the replies obviously.
