My wife needs a new monitor for the PC I am building her. So I was going to give her my monitor which is a ViewSonic P95f+ and get my either a 2001fp or a NEC but cannot decide what to get.

I would like to get upgrade to a 20 in screen but not sure if its worth it. Also would love a 2001fp if I dont have any probs with gaming.
Or should I just stick with the 19" VS and save my cash.

Would love to here from anyone with either of the monitors above.
Thanks slip

I just got my 2001fp yesterday. I love it! Not one dead pixel and I do not see any "screen door" effect at all. I was using a sony 21" tritron. It looks great with movies and I dont notice any ghosting for me at least. I play everquest mostly on mine. The only caution would be, make sure you have a video card that can power 1600x1200 resolution.

A BFG 5900 atm, just ordered a 6800 myself :p

With a 6800gt you should give the 2001fp a shot. I truely am amazed at how nice my dell is. Though with anything, you might get unlucky. The nice thing is, dell is great on exchanges/returns if you have bad luck.

if you want the ultimate user feedback on the dell 2001fp go to the following:
2001fp user feedback
Be prepared to read, the thread is 101 pages long and has feedback from the start of this year. You are going to drop a large amount of cash if you do decide to purchase so this might be worth the read for you.

Here's a link with a poll of dead pixel to give you an idea of your changes of getting no dead pixels:
2001fp dead pixel poll

I have a vs P95F at 1024x768 if you use this resolution also, i would suggest a 19" lcd with a native 1280x1024. I tried a 2001fp, it had no dead pixel but it was difficult to view at times cause i experienced the grainy/screen door effect mentioned in the 1st link. The grainy effect made it difficult for me to view the monitor at 1600x1200. Take into consideration each person's vision but if you feel 1024x768 is the best view for you with your current 19" i would suggest the vs 912b lcd over the 2001fp. You can increase th dpi of the text in windows to large but it still didn't look as good when i tried this with the 2001fp.

The nec fp2141sb you chose is also good, but one thing i hate about crt is the issue of geometry, clearness of text at edges, and convergence and since crt weight alot, rma cost to ship it back is cruel if you are not pleased with the results.

I went for the fp2141sb path after the dell2001fp but I feel like I should have gone with the vs 912b then the fb2141sb. The fp2141sb i got was defective so it's getting replaced. This is your chance to try a lcd if you never owned one before, if you don't like the vs 912b, you can give it to your wife or return it and try the nec fp2141sb instead or keep your p95f+.

FP2141SB-BK owner here. If you are big into gaming, go with the NEC. Hands down(with its twin the Mitsubishi 2070SB-BK) the best gaming monitor you can buy. I looked in to the 2001FP prior to picking up the NEC and could have had them for almost the same price when I bought mine(the NEC was actually a hair more including shipping). The NEC is one component on my PC that I've never regretted purchasing. The latency issue(a really big one for me), dead pixels and extremely poor colors of the 2001FP really turned me off(although, these are native to the type of display, it isn't Dell's fault).

2048x1536@85Hz in game looks incredible and you have the rig to power it for most games. 1600x1200 is low res garbage when you get used to real high res gaming ;)

If you aren't into gaming maybe the 2001FP would be a better choice for you.

I got my new 2001FP (dell) last week...."how sweet it is". I'm running a 6800gt graphics card and have my desktop set to 16x12....simply stunning.

Thanks for the great references, I am now starting to lean away from getting and lcd. On my VS p95f+ I have the resolution set at 1024x768.
What I want to know now if I get a NEC fp2141sb will the picture quality be as good as my current monitor .. I am very happy with my p95f+ picture quietly but I thought it would be nice to have a larger screen. I dont want to get this monitor if it is not clear.

I wish there was a place I could look at all of the monitors side by side.

I use to have two 19" Sony CRTs and loved them, but then decided it was time to switch to the LCD crazy, bought two (Samsung 213t) and I hated them!!!! Then Switched to a 16ms BenQ and hated them as well, then sold them and got me two 19" NECs!!! And they are great!!!

What made me hate the LCDs as much as anything was there constant requirement of having to be used in their native resalution, that just didn't work for me on games, You have to have a hell of a videocard to play DOOM3 or Farcry at 1600x1200!!!

So I knew I wanted to go back to CRT, but I really liked the extra realestate the the 21 inch Samsungs brought to the table, but in a CRT it just didn't make sense to go with the 22in NECs because they where 650 bucks where the exact same monitor, but 19 inch was 250, so I decided to get two 19s, with the hope of one day soon picking up a PCI videocard and another 19!!!!

My P95F is running at 1024x768 at 140hz. I know as refresh rates goes higher that text sharpness is sacrificed abit but to give you an idea, when I set the nec 2141sb to 1280x1024 at 120hz the text was much worst compared to my P95F but if I lowered it to under 100hz then text was at acceptable sharpness. Hopefully the new replacement will have much better results. I expect the replacement to arrive sometime next week. After the grainy view of the 2001fp and a defective nec 2141sb, at this point I feel like I should just stick with my P95F for another year but since I already started my search for a 20" viewable area monitor I will continue with my search.

Thanks for the advice kd and Ray I think I will just stick with what I got for now and buy my wife a new 19" monitor for her new pc. Let me know how the fp2141sb replacement works out.

Thanks slip

My replacement came today. It has no defects like the original but sharpness of text is not uniformly sharp, basically sharper at the center like most crt. Put it up for sale and gonna continue my search once it has sold.
