I was using some generic 17" with 60hz refresh rate and my eyes were dieing, so I knew I needed something else. I bought a new sony e400 for 170, and wow what a difference it makes. I actually enjoy reading things, and playing games is sooo much better. I just wish I bought one earlier.
 
I know the feeling
Was using a crappy viewsonic A70 and just upgraded to Sony G420S 19" today... one word... WOW
 
Monitors are the one thing I believe people shouldn't skimp on.. direct connection with your eyes.

a good monitor is gold.
