Hello, I recently upgraded from a 660 ti to a 690 GTX....

Here are my specs

i5 3570k @ 4.5ghz
Evga GTX 690
16 gb ddr

screen = 40'' Panasonic Full HDTV 1080p...

As you have guessed I want to upgrade mainly due to the fact I have to turn v sync on to stop tearing but then I am locked at 60fps with a 690 GTX....

The perfect monitor I am looking for would be 27''... I have heard anything under 6ms is good enough? and also I want a refresh rate of at least 120hz and a larger resolution than 1920 x 1080(2500 x 1299 or whatever it is???).... I am not that well educated on monitors but I heard there is also contrast ratio and I have also been reading about IPS panel monitors which I have ruled out as they lock at 60z=60fps which is a no no....

am I being very ambitious thinking I can get a decent one with what I want for under 300 pounds or should I be looking more towards 450-500....eek!? Thanks for any help its much appreciated

List of games I currently have installed so you know what I play...

far cry 3
bioshock infinite
arma III
witcher 2
fifa 13
bf3

future games:-

batman origins
fifa 14
bf4

As far as I know, yes. That equals about 465.00 US dollars. You can buy 120 hz but combined with higher than 1080p resolution? Does that exist? Why 120hz? For 3D?
Dell and Asus offer good monitors...IPS or TN panels. I would browse the internet and see what's out there. However, I'm thinking a 400.00-600.00 budget (US dollars) is what you might expect to pay. And there is a difference between PC monitors vs TV monitors, especially in gaming. You are looking for a refresh rate of 2ms to 8ms. you won't get both hi res (i.e. IPS panel) and 120+hz in one monitor.

Ok thanks... So what you're saying is I would be better suited looking for a good 1920 x 1080 monitor with a high refresh rate? And no I am not looking to play 3d it doesn't excite me.

With my card I could hit high resolutions very easy and I was looking forward to playing in them whilst also on a 120hz monitor so you're telling me I wont find a higher res than 1920 x 1080 with 120hz+ and a response time of under 6ms?

Yes
I went through the same thing last year with a new PC build drove me crazy!
Two trains of thought:

1. Get a hi res (Dell preferred) monitor for graphics IPS screen. Refresh rate about 8ms, which is fine

2. Get a 144 hz monitor (1080p) for smoother play, no ghosting (So they say)

Quite a discussion ensued here between the two camps. And no real resolution (pardon the pun) for me. The bottom line is it's all up to you in the end. Here are a few suggestions (and I'm ignoring the costs) as that's up to you as well.

Asus VG278H
Dell UltraSharp U2711

ASUS PB278Q
Asus VG278HE 27"

I ended up with an inexpensive Asus TN 24"1080p 2 ms response.. I'll wait awhile before looking for "the perfect" monitor, if one exists!
Also see what others think, but beware you may end up as confused as I was.

Above is the discussion that ensued when I was looking for a monitor. It might help or confuse you more! I went to five local stores as well trying to find display monitors and found 1 Asus and 0 Dell Ultrasharps. Asus and Dell are good brand names...don't know if I trust Chinese monitors (like Catleap).

Did he end up buying anything? If not I'd recmomend the Asus VS247H-P all around monitor (a review here), or if you like Dell better (though I feel it's a little overpriecd for it's features and the fact you can get better at the $170 range), the Dell S2340M might suit you better

I wouldn't trust chinese monitors though, I always look for brand names in my monitors in case something goes wrong, I can always contact supoprt.
