I currently have a Samsung 971P and its great and all, but I am ready to go widescreen. I have done a little bit of research, and I am pretty sure I do not want TN panel. I mainly surf the internet and play games on this computer, so I need something with a good response time, but from what I hear the Samsung 971P is suppose to be horrible for gaming and I think its fine.

I was looking at the NEC Display Solutions 20WMGX2 but its way over a year old and was thinking maybe theres something even better out now?

I am looking to spend no more than $400AR (I can do rebates of up to $100). So what are some other good options for this price range?

Thanks for any advice! :)

It seems most panels are now TN panels, have they gotten alot better in recent years as far as picture quality? Or are they popular because of price and very fast response times?

TN panels have gotten better, IMO. I had no problems gaming on my Acer 22" TN LCD, however the Soyo in my sig is much better, at 24" inches and I can definately recommend it. It's an M-PVA panel and costs $299 on sale at OfficeMax. A friend o mine bought a 24" Samsung at Costco for ~$450 as well.

The NEC 20WMGX2 will have a much smaller pixel size than your current monitor. Something to keep in mind if you read a lot of text.

So I guess i should still stay away from TN panels, and it seems there are no other good options compared to the NEC?

Anyone with the NEC 20WMGX2 have backlight bleeding? The thing that annoys me more than anything is a monitor with bad backlight bleeding......

The NEC 20WMGX2 uses a high quality S-IPS panel and has pretty good response time. It's not as fast as a TN panel for gaming but the colors and viewing angles of an S-IPS panel more than make up for that. The downside of this monitor is that it's kind of small at just 20" -- otherwise I would have bought one without a 2nd thought. Tough call here...

I am now also looking at Samsung 215TW and Dell 2007WFP...

Well the dell seems like you are playing a guessing game on which panel you are going to get with the monitor. The samsung seems like its a great monitor but not as good as the NEC is for gaming....

Does this seem about accurate? Guess NEC is the best option for me....?
