Hello

I got a DELL 2001fp 20.1" flat-panel monitor at an auction.

I tried viewing a VHS and DVD, it looks really good, using the composite cable.

When I tried it with the computer, with the VGA cable, I noticed there's a pale red "shadow" or "ghost" to the right of the letters, and graphics. Seems to be the same effect on my other computer.

Since both of these computers have ancient video cards, I was wondering if replacing the card would improve things?

Thanks for help.

I have it set for 1280 x 1084. The VGA plug is called" D-Sub" on the monitor.

The native resolution is supposed to 1600 x 1200, I think.

When I try to set it for that, the message comes on: "Can not display this mode"

I've seen this with older VGA cards with newer monitors that have higher than 1280x1024 resolutions using cheap VGA cables. I'd imagine moving to a video card with a DVI connection would solve your ghosting woes.

Ah, you will definitely see some ghosting when not running native resolutions. Have you tried updating your videocard drivers to see if you can "enable" the higer resolution?

Hey, thanks for info! I will try updating the driver, and if that doesn't work, get a new video card. The monitor looks great when hooked to the DVD player .

I got a couple of AOC flat panel monitors at the auction, too. One of them works, it's sweet.

The other one won't quite turn on, there's a flicker, then 5 seconds, then a flicker, then 5 seconds....

Does it sound like a capacitor in the board? I already took it apart and sprayed everything with contact spray.

Probably the lamp giving up. I had one flat panel a while back that just flickered like that. I couldn't really tell -- I am no expert. :)

Ha ha, I don't believe it. I switched cards, downloaded newest drivers and still got the faint ghosting.

Then I pulled the loose video plug out and reinserted it, and the ghosting went away.
