Laptop is a Dell XPS 13, model 9360. I just purchased a new Dell monitor, model U2415. It came with 2 cables. One is labeled DP V1.2; the other is a miniDP to USB. I also have a HDMI to USB-C. I plugged in the HDMI cable and turned on the monitor, thinking it would automatically be detected by the laptop, (Windows 10). But it isn't and a message on the new monitor says "No DP cable". What am I doing wrong?

Did you change the input on the U2415 to HDMI? This monitor has 2 inputs, displayport, and HDMI.

I didn't. I just plugged in the HDMI cable to the monitor and the USB-C to the laptop. How do I change the input to HDMI?

The 3rd button on it takes you to the menu. Choose input source, and pick the right HDMI port (there are 2).

Got it. Thank you.
BTW, is there a difference in performance using HDMI vs DP?

The U2415 resolution is 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz, so while DP 1.2 can handle more data than HDMI 1.4, both can handle 60Hz with no problems.
