I've been looking to replace my aging Viewsonic VP171b for a while, and recently came up with the funds to get whatever I wanted. The NEC 20WMGX2-BK was my first choice and ordered it last Friday. Unfortunately I got a call Monday informing me that it was backordered. Everywhere I looked (for a reasonable price anyway) it was out of stock. So last night I got tired of waiting and picked up the 215TW from CompUSSR. This thing is fantastic.... big, bright, terrific colors and flawless. I really like it, except for one thing..... online gaming. I realize a lot of it is going from a 17" to a 21" widescreen, but man the ghosting is unbearable. The Viewsonic ghosted as well, but it seems 10x worse on this panel. Also while gaming this evening I noticed input lag. The combination of these two things has severely hindered my pwnage abilities.... :/

This really sux because I really do like this monitor.... the IQ is simply outstanding. I've played a few SP games and have no problems at all, but multi is just unbearable. And after sitting in front of a 21" widescreen for 1 day, there is no possible way of going back to a 17" or even a 19" 4:3 model.... :)

So, do you think it's worth taking this thing back and ordering what I wanted to begin with? Will there be a noticeable difference in ghosting and input lag with the NEC? It would be a big hassle to take this one back and wait to be able to order the NEC, which incidentally I'd most likely be stuck with no matter what. So I'd really like to know if it would be worth the trouble and the extra $100...

How much did you pay for it?

I still think that the Dell 2405 is hard to beat. Does Dell still sell them?

The NEC will be faster for gaming and probably have less input lag (AS-IPS vs. S-PVA).

SickBeast: Paid $499 plus tax. It can be had cheaper online, but the instant gratification plus being able to return it with no shipping hassle makes it worth the extra $$$ to me. As for the Dell..... meh. 24" is just a bit too much, and the 20" ones aren't that impressive to me. From what I've seen the Samsung has much better picture quality.

xtknight: Yeah I kinda knew that, but I also figured going from an old 16ms panel to an 8ms one would be an implovement. I think the larger size just makes it a lot more noticeable is all. I'm wondering if the NEC will make a noticeable improvement. From what I've read I'm sure I'll be happy with the IQ.

Well I figured out how to fix my problem. I just set the aspect to 4:3 in the monitor OSD and set my res to 1280x1024 and now my online games are back to the way they were before. Maybe someday ATI will fix their centered timings option and I won't have to do this anymore.... :)
