Question New Monitor for RTX 2060

I am going to buy a new 1080p monitor for my RTX 2060 oc.

The AOC 24G2 144Hz or the 24G2E5 75Hz are good options.
What I do not understand is if a high refresh rate, like the 144Hz will affect the performance of my VGA or even CPU? Will there be a drop in fps?

A higher refresh rate does NOT lower your framerate, but it DOES require more frames to look fluid.

On a 60hz screen, you need 60fps.
On a 75hz screen, you need 75fps.
On a 144hz screen, you need 144fps.

So your GPU will be working harder on the same games, at the same resolution and graphics settings. And depending on the game, your CPU may also be putting in more work to keep up with the higher framerate.

That being said, an RTX 2060 should be capable of playing many games at 1080p144hz with acceptable FPS. Though maybe not at the highest settings.

Thank you for the reply. So, If get the 144Hz and find that the performance is not as good as before then can I lower the refresh rate to 120 or 75 or even down to 60 and the monitor will still work perfectly fine?

Yes, though before setting it to a lower refresh rate, i'd turn on freesync and then enable G-sync compatibility in the Nvidia settings, as that SHOULD allow your monitor to lower it's refresh rate dynamically to match your framerate in-game.

Why not simply lower the details to fit the refresh rate of the monitor?

But friend, right now I have a 1080p 60Hz monitor, I can play games at a certain graphic settings and getting X number of FPS.
If I get the 144Hz and to get the same performance I need to lower the details, then what do I get out of it? If this is the case then I can buy a 75Hz monitor where I assume the performance will be very close to a 60Hz.

Always go for a higher refresh rate. The benefit isn't just in gaming. Moving your mouse on your desktop, folders/programs around, is just butter smooth. I'd look at a 1080p 144hz display with an IPS panel for better colors/viewing angles. If you want higher rres, can go 1440p, but it will be more demanding on your GPU, and reduce frame rate. The 2060 is no slouch, but depends on preference, if you want the sharper details, or higher frame rates at 1080p.

The correct order ALWAYS for games is this: Motion Fluidity -> resolution -. detail levels/presets.

There is absolutely nothing comparable to genuinely fluid motion. And it scales EVERYWHERE, not only in games, but also your desktop animations, scrolling the web is much more fluid.
