New monitor for gaming

Well, i posted this on another forum if any of u guys r wondering because this one had maintenence, but here goes.

I attempted to read the LCD monitor sticky but there was just so much information. Below is copied and pasted.



I didnt really know what forum to post this in so i decided to do it here. I want a new monitor that can game at 1920x1080.
I was looking for a 20" monitor that could do that but i didnt find any on the market. If there is any, could you guys give me a link? For now, ill stick to what i can find.

Would this monitor be okay for gaming? I dont know much about color but would this have decent colors too? Also, it says its an LED monitor, is this any different in performance than LCD? The reviews on it say there is a dark spot in the middle right of the screen.

Im not sure this one has HDMI, but arent there cords that can go from DVI to HDMI or something like that?

Im open to any new suggestions for monitors as long as they AREN'T smaller than 1600x900 (that means ill take a good 1600x900). I also want one with HDMI and will get a new graphics card (560 superclocked) that was suggested to me by someone on this forum too.

ok thanks for telling me, i would have never new. Ive pretty much narrowed it down to two monitors so here they are. Price is not an issue between these two and neither is sound quality. I have my own speakers.

OK, so here goes...

You seem to be a bit confused by the marketing lingo ASUS uses. Both are LCD monitors, but one has a CCFL backlight (Cold Cathode Fluorescent), whereas the other uses LED backlighting.

The first monitor you mention is LED back-lit, supposedly. LED edge-lit monitors typically have terrible color uniformity, but true back-lit ones are fine. Many people swear that they provide better image quality, while others say the opposite. It's generally agreed upon that LED backlights use less power and allow manufacturers to make thinner/lighter monitors, but CCFL backlights are purported (yes, that's a word) to cause less eye strain.

That being said, the LED back-lit monitor you've linked to is ugly as sin, IMHO.

I own the 23" version of that monitor, and its colors are quite nice for a TN panel. For some quick settings that work well, start with the "theater mode" preset and turn down the saturation.
