I haven't heard there new one. Good news for people who love bad news was an awesome CD. That sucks if there new one isn't even half as good as that one.

Their CDs before Good News for People who love Bad News were very rough...very unpolished, very modest mouse. They were full of anger, great lyrics, and fun ones as well. The Good News CD was a lot more polished then the rest but it was deff still modest mouse. Float on was their catchy song to get on the radio, but the rest of the CD had some great songs like Bukowski and the view.

I heard the new Dashobard song for this new CD...I was hoping that it was the same thing. Put out a really catchy tune to get people to listen to the rest..kinda like the gorillaz. This time tho the rest of the CD is poppy. there are a few songs here and there that start to shine but overall its way over done. It is full of generic guitar rifts, dumbed down lyrics, and a lack of the full range of emotion Isacc can portray. I find it strange because if you go and see them live you can really see what they are like. If you think their old CDs were rough, see them in concert..its even harsher! To say that Issac is a good guitarist is a long shot. The thing is that this band use to put out what they could play in concert fine..rough stuff. They are not going to be able to reproduce the polished sound live. I love music and live shows, and in my exeprience, good bands are able to reproduce what they put on on CD. For example

Radiohead - EVEN BETTER LIVE
Dave Matthews - Sounds the same with a 7 min bonus of improv
Sigur Ros - Is amazing live, even better then the CD
System of a Down - Sounds great live
Green Day - Sounds great live

meh

To be honest I wasn't a huge fan of Good News. The thing that made me fall in love with Modest Mouse was precisely the sloppiness and downright desolate atmosphere of the earlier albums. Despite Good News being, well, good, it just wasn't the same Modest Mouse to me. I really doubt I'll pick up the new one, especially based on all the comments like yours that I've heard.

It didnt suck...it was good for what it was..far better then a lot else out there BUT not even close to as good as their older stuff. Doesnt compare to Ugly Casanova either....

I plan to see them when they tour...i will be very upset if they play all new songs.

I'm more pissed off at them for playing a short set. Driving 2 hours for a 35 minute show is not worth it. I practically stopped listening to them after that. OTOH, I don't blame bands for changing their sound & I tend to hate the annoying fans who get their panties in a wad when bands do this.

you think radiohead is good live, which obviously means you need a new set of ears :p

the only concert in my life that I ever walked out on.

I haven't heard the new CD yet but I've been listening to Dashboard on the radio a lot and really like it. It's new flavor is a nice (IMO) change from the old Modest Mouse, which I still enjoy. Though I think I will be a bit disappointed if every song on the CD sounds like Dashboard...

I hadn't been exposed to Modest Mouse before Good News...

I liked float on, but enjoyed Ocean Breathes Salty more. It's sad to hear that they ran out of material and are having to resort to being "produced". It happens to so many talented bands these days. It happened to Dave Matthews Band around 1999 and they've never been the same.

I've been listening to the new album for about a week now. At first I was kind of iffy on it - I liked it but didn't love it. But now that I've listened to it a dozen times, I love it. I disagree about all the songs being poppy. Dashboard is far and away the most poppy song on the album. A few others are catchy/radio-friendly, but there are plenty of rawer-non-radio songs. And really, after getting to know the album better, I started to like the poppy songs even more too. Even Dashboard which I was initially extremely disappointed with, I like now.
I think in general the album is a huge grower - you need to listen to it a few times to appreciate it. I've found this to be the case with pretty much every album I end up loving.
Its hard to even pick a favorite song off it, because there are several that I get excited when they come up.
I was never a big fan of Good News, in fact, its my least favorite album, even behind Sad Sappy Sucker. While I'd say this is similar to Good News in its production/sound, I like it a lot better. Yeah, it doesn't quite match up to the older stuff, but a band has to evolve, and it does provide a fuller sound while still keeping some raw elements to it.

I've been a fan of theirs for 11 - 12 years. I used to go to their shows all of the time when I lived in Seattle; I would call their shows hit and miss. A few have been great, a few sucked because Isaac was wasted/high/whatever before he ever stepped on stage.

For some reason their later albums just haven't done it for me. I have all of them, but I mostly listen to This is a Long Drive... and The Lonesome Crowded West.

Perhaps they are getting older? It's hard to keep the teenage angst when you are pushing 30. I thought the same thing when I first heard the new single, but after a few plays I picked it up on iTunes and am very happy with it.

it was actually the opposite for them -- they went to being 'under-produced'.
