Hello, I am completely new to these forums and have very limited knowledged about networking...and everything else about a computer. I'm currently making a decision to purchase a D-Link DCM-202 cable modem to replace the Terayon TJ 715x from the monthly leasing charges. I would like to know if this will work ok and will not cause any conflicts since my Terayon is connected to an ancient Network Everywhere NR041 router. If there is to be no problems and I purchase this D-link, will I have to contact my cable provider about the update? If so, what is it, and how would I get access to those information? Thank you and I hope I fit in here without any complications.

If you want to know for certain whether or not that modem will work with your cable ISP, the best option would be to call the ISP and ask them. Every Internet provider has different requirements about what will and will not work on their system.

As for the router, I don't see any reason why a new modem wouldn't work with it.

RentAJediATEbay welcome to the Network Forum.

On the occasion that you call your ISP ask if your charges would be reduced if you return the Modem.

Some ISPs do not care whether you use their Modem or Not and the charges would be the same. Or it would be reduced so that it would takes years to recoup the Modem cost.
