New model 80GB PS3 is just a 40GB console with 80GB HDD

BabaBooey

So the ol 40GB PS3 finally went on the lam and stopped putting out video,so took it and my bestbuy ext. warranty and the geek-squad teen-geek tested it out and sent me over to exchange....sweet.

So I go back and no more 40GB ( I already knew this ) and I grabbed a 80GB and went up and finished the exchange, thinking I got a 40gb upgrade as well as 4 usb ports, flash card readers and the dual shock 3 controller upgrades...😀

Get home rip it open and BAM ! ...2 x USB ports and no flash reader.....🙁
and yet they still charge $400 + tax and yes I know it costs $448 to make now but damn the flash readers were nice.

Poor bunny ...

It's been known for a long time that the new 80gb is just the old 40gb with a bigger HDD. In fact, I don't even think them make the 40gb SKU anymore. Best Buy did rip you off though by making you pay the full $399 for a new console that is the exact same price as your old 40gb. I certainly would have said something if they were going to make me pay full price again if it was supposed to be an exchange covered by the warranty. I would return it and demand a full refund.

Umm he has the extended warranty so he didn't pay an additional 400. That kinda defeats the purpose of buying an extended warranty if you end up having to pay the full amount for an "exchange"

OP is just shocked that for the same price as before it doesn't have anything significantly new.

Honestly though I don't see the logic. He paid 400 then and didn't get 4 usb and flash card reader and was OK with it. But now feels jipped that he now gets extra 40gigs and ds3 controller.

I can see being jipped if they raised prices but they kept prices as when the 40gb version debuted.

Correct and I said I THOUGHT I was getting the old features, flash reader,etc...and that comment about being jipped was somewhat sarcastic and a bit of humor...see the bunny for effect...I thought I was getting a bonus upgrade to the 80gb features due to owning a older 80GB before and did not know about the changes.

So put away your logic books and loosen up that thong and relax...😀

You know there's all those gypsies running around the AT Console gaming forum. Lighten up.

Sony's "brilliant" marketing strategy strikes again.

Sony marketing rep: "How can we win this console war?"
Sony marketing rep 2: "I know! Let's release about six different versions of our console with varying levels of features!"
Sony marketing rep: "Brilliant!"

Speaking as someone with such blood in him, I think you need to reassess your prejudices. Do you slur every racial group you're not tight with? Just curious.

Considering how many people spell it wrong, I think you can rest assured that they don't know the etymology and thus don't intend to offend. An ethnic slur is just another word - the offensiveness is in the intent of the speaker.

And the 360 just has one version. No differences between any of them. Yup.

No, there are: no HD, HD, bigger HD, and the inclusion of some cables and headseats that you could otherwise buy if you wanted. Point being, an arcade 360 could be brought up to the identical specs of an elite - the machine is essentially the same, just the accessories differ - but a 40/80gb PS3 will never have the build in features of an original 60gb with hardware BC and all the extra ports.

If you went into BB to exchange your old 360, you'd be getting one in return that had at least the same funtionality if not better. With the PS3, you would possibly not. OP didn't really lose out on anything, gained a Dualshock and 40 extra gigs, but yeah, the possibility for confusion and screwing is certainly there.

Exactly. The only difference in features between the different models of the 360 that can't be added is an HDMI port. That was only an issue with the first batch of 360s, and all 360s in like the past two years at least have had HDMI.

The different versions of the PS3 have varying levels of features that unless you buy the right model, YOU CANNOT GET IN YOUR PS3 EVER. Weren't fortunate enough to get a PS2 compatible PS3? Sorry! Also, didn't the 40 GB model do away with some features as well? And since the 80 GB is just a bigger HDD model of the 40 GB, there's more features that are just gone.

It's also interesting to note that in each subsequent revision of the 360, MORE has been added to the system, whereas in each later version of the PS3, features have been REMOVED from the system.

Shut your fuck hole gypsy. I'm going to use this term in situations where it doesn't even make sense, just to stick it to people like you.

Back OT: Yeah that blows and it's really confusing, but I'm surprised you didn't know about this already OP. I mean you read ATCG and you obviously know enough about the console to get a number on how much it costs to produce... so I'd expect you'd have heard of this already. *shrugs*

OP, don't feel too bad. The 160GB PS3 gains nothing over the 80GB other than the extra HDD space; no extra USB ports, no media card readers and, of course, no PS2 BC.

Well, Hitler did persecute them as well so...who knows!

Who, at my relatively late age I didn't know that Gypped came from Gypsies. Heard the term gypped all my life be never knew the origin. TY AT for a new useful factoid! 😛
