Hi All

Ok I'm going to upgrade my motherboard with the nvida chip set. I have narrowed down choice to
the Asus and Epox boards. On memory choice shud i get the Corsair xms PC2700 or 3200 ? I plan
on running dual memory mode.

Tnx to all

To be honest i would choose the 3200 just mainly because it is a faster Bus speed and will help performance significantly. But like all decisions, cost is a major issue, and you need to way what you are going to be doing with the PC compared to how much you want to spend to get it to be running at its best. But just from what I know, I am assuming this MOBO can support the 3200 Memory, then I would go with that.

Well, I don't think that's really the entirety of the issue. You need to consider what you'll be upgrading to. The overall system runs best when the FSB of the processor and the memory bus are syncronous. You really don't gain much, if anything, from running the memory at speeds faster than the processor in an nForce2 board. If you'll be running one of the new Athlons at 333 MHz (166 DDR), then PC2700 is all you need. However, if you're the type to upgrade fairly regularly and you think you'll be going for the 400 MHz Bartons (200 DDR) when they come out, then having PC3200 ready for it wouldn't be bad at all. Alternatively, if you like to overclock and want to get your processor's FSB to 400 MHz or possibly more, having PC3200 would ensure that the memory won't have issues.

Don't waste the extra money on something that you won't benefit from. Basically what it boils down to is: get PC3200 if you're planning on getting a Barton or overclocking. Otherwise, there's not much to be gained.

Tell us your plans for the setup.
nvidia mobo = nf2? (I assume this, since you said "dual memory mode". You mean dual channel ddr?)
Are you going to overclock?
CPU is 133 or 166 fsb?
Asus = a7n8x?
Epox = 8rda?

Thanks for all the great advice, well i ordered the Epox EP-8RDA+ today and plan on using my AMD 2000+, Matrox 7200 hd
Geforce2Pro Video card. I have 512 megs of Crucial PC2100 ram on my Shuttle AK35GTR board. In the future i will up grade to the
new barton cpu. I just wanted to do a little pre-planning since i will move my shuttle board to my slower computer (P3-550)
and get a 1700+ chip for it. so for awhile i will use the new board with the 2000+, and new memory. Question agn, will it be ok to
use PC3200 memory with the 2000+? not worried abt performance or overclocking at the moment, however seems like a few
doors will open !!!

Yeah, you can use PC3200. Almost all RAM will run at slower clock speeds. That's if you're running it at 266mhz. If you can, get 2x256MB, then you can always use them in dual channel or one for trouble shooting.
