Just yesterday I swapped out my mobo from an Abit VT7 to an Abit IC7-G Max. I didnt change anything else. Since the swap I've noticed my processor is running about 10 degrees hotter. Any ideas as to why? The processor is a P4 2.4ghz, its not oveclocked or anything. I have a very good adjustable fan on it as well as many throughout the case. My case temps are the same at about 28c but my processor temps went from 30 to 40c. I'm confused

thanks,
nags

1)double check that the heatsink is seated correctly..
2) applying too much or too little thermal paste can cause a problem as well

I reseated it once already. How much thermal paste should I use? I used just a small dot in the center

Some abit boards do report a higher temp. Check the bios updates to see if they address this issue.

I wouldn't say reporting higher temperatures is an "issue". In fact, many many desktop boards report way too low temperatures because that's what users want to see. Sick? Yes - but with all the temperaturemania going on in online forums, as a support worker you don't stand the least chance of explaining that a P4 CPU running at 60C is perfectly fine and healthy - even though it is.

So should I not even worry about it then?

And I do have the latest bios update

When you're sure you got the heatsink assembly done properly and correctly, then yes, no worries.
