I just upgraded my system - well basically built a completely new one.

I am using:
MSI P6N-SLI mobo
Duo Core e6750
2 x 1g of Kingston Valueram DDR2 6400
Hitachi Deskstar 320G HDD
ATI x1950 Pro

When I first put it together it acted very oddly. Basically anytime I would reboot after adding software, the BIOS screen would showup for a split second then the system would turn off. It also just shut down a couple of time while it was up and running. I could bypass this by turning off the power and resetting the CMOS then it would start back up.

My first thought was that it was a memory issue so I set all latency to 5 and voltage to 1.8 (not sure where the "auto" function had it). This made no difference so I went to the MSI website, got a newer version of the BIOS and flashed it.

Once I did that I got nothing - no post, no beep, no nothing - just some lights on and noone home.

Is there anyway to reverse the BIOS upgrade and go back to the limited functionality? Or does this sound like a bad mobo altogether?

Any input would be immensely appreciated.

just some further information -

PSU is a new Coolermaster 500W Extremepower 24pin (yes the pins are all in)

Also it looks like the board has to be manually adjusted to run 1333fsb, although the fact that it was up and running at one point leads me to believe it isnt a bus speed issue.

In addition no beeps from it when the memory is removed - this leads me to believe that updating my BIOS killed my mobo.

well, try pulling the battery let the system sit unplugged for 15 minutes, replace the battery and power cord and try booting. I think the board was shot before the bios update from the sound of it.

Was that a clean, fresh OS install, or just moving the HDD to the new PC?

You set the memory voltage to 1.8, is that what the memory manufacture recommends?

Yes it was a new HDD and a clean install.

The memory is 1.8v as specified by Kingston.

I tried the battery removal - no luck.

Whats I don't understand is how updating the BIOS could kill it, even if it was acting sketchy beforehand.

Looks like time to RMA...

yep, go ahead and rma it. if you do, some manufacturers will send you a new board 1st, usually need a credit card in case you do not send the bad board back.
