New mobo problems

I just picked up an Asus P4T533-C, and I'm having a couple problems. I was wondering if any of you could help.

The problems are:
1. Both IDE channels do not work together, but work fine separately. The board does not support RAID, so it has nothing to do with that.
2. Windows bluescreens whenever I start it up. I'm using Windows 2000 Professional, I heard somewhere that installing a new motherboard usually kills Windows. Can anyone confirm this or help me otherwise?

Thanks for all your help.

Did you do a fresh reinstall of W2K? or just swap same kind of mother board?

In Win95/98/Me systems, it didn't usually require a OS reinstall but in NT/XP systems, board swaps will require an OS reinstall.

do a reinstall of win2k...but at the second screen after choosing install windows you should pick the "reinstall" option and then point to the active partition that windows is already installeed on. Doing this procedure is the best way to not disrupt the programs and files saved on your disk. I've done it a few times with XP and works like a charm.

Just a reminder on the first screen DO NOT choose Repair. Choose Install (default should be ENTER) and at that point you do a reinstall which will help you avoid reformatting the drive and reinstalling your programs.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to try and reinstall XP pro today (I upgraded) to see if it works.

I'll kep you guys posted.
