New Mobo or CPU for OC?

Since I just invested in a new 650w PSU after my old one went out. I figured I try to overclock my current setup. Upon finding I had to increase the voltage just to see 200Mhz gain, I figured it was the CPU or Mobo. I know my CPU is is capped at 13.5 so I have to increase the FSB, but I have a cheap mobo and I don't think it can push the 6core CPU.

My current setup

Mobo
CPU
RAMx2
HDD1
HDD2
GPU

I am looking at the Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P. I've read on one site that it was decent for OC, but I want to know other peoples opinion on my options.

1.) New Mobo
2.) New Mobo/CPU

Any help is appreciated.

If i was you, i wouldnt get anything but premium motherboards and cooling to OC that CPU. I had a 990FX UD3 with a 1055T clocked to 4GHz on air. (300FSB or so i dont remember) But thats a long shot. I suggest you get a mobo and a 8320 or 8350 if you wanna stick with AMD.

If you're not going to OC much anyways because you're limited by cooling i suggest you get an i5 or something, they are usually the best Price/performance CPUs at stock.

Massive waste on money.

That's what I was looking for, thanks for your help so far. What do you mean by "custom"?

Not to take the words out of his mouth, but I suspect he's suggesting you get a custom cooling setup, rather than a prepurchased one.

When I fooled around with OCing (on my Athlon 3000+; I'm old) Cooling ended up being the biggest factor, as I was super careful to get high quality motherboard/PSU setups.

Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for the suggestion
