New Mobo/GPU budget Help!

Here is the problem im having. I havn't been into computers for awhile now (8-9months). My current rig is a E6300 with some Crappy ECS Agp mobo. i just bought 2gb OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400. im on a budget of 260$. Im looking for a Mobo and GPU. Here is my First choice

BIOSTAR TForce965PT with a 7600GT

Or

(Insert cheap mobo here) with a 7900GT.


Im not sure what to do at this point. any advice?

As for games none yet as im getting back to computer gaming. Probably that dark messiah game/Gothic 3? Maybe alitte oblivion and some shooters

Gothic3 and oblivion are very graphically intense (though 1280x1024 is not particularly high res) so the 7900gt with a cheaper motherboard may make more sense. You might also consider an x1950xt which you can get for $160 (after rebate), which leaves you with about enough to get the biostar board.

what kinda board do you recommend to go along with the x1950xt?

i managed to gather some cash.

How about this?

BIOSTAR TForce965PT with a 7600gt?
Mainly due to the 8600Ultra just around the corner
Would this memory work with the biostar?

That memory will be fine, and the 7600gt oughta be able to hold you over for awhile without any problems

that memory will be fine, considering that the 8600 might be available as early as next month, it might make sense to hold off until then (so you dont spend money on the 7600gt to use it for 1-2months).

I ended up buying a EVGA 7900GS as i can always step up to the 8600. Is that a good choice?

Are you overclocking? If so, the Biostar is your cheapest option.
Otherwise you can definitely step down to a $50 - $85 motherboard and not lose performance.

I definitely would have gotten the X1950 Pro, for $10 more (assuming you bought it at newegg). Use this as a guide: link.
