New mobo+cpu with old ram

Am debating getting either abit nf7-s or a7n8x deluxe with xp2100 (tbred)..

1. IS it true that the asus is a far better/stable mobo for o/c'ing overall?
2. To overclock more, I assume I need to upgrade my ram. Currently use spectek cas2.5 2100ddr 256x2.
3. With the cpu, do I have to watch for a certain stepping? I plan on buying the cpu from newegg.
4. Any more advice related to overclocking with the cpu or mobo mentioned?
