New Mobo Asus A7N8X (non Delx) has some problems, could use help.

OverVolt

It's a rev2 A7N8X. Just installed the mobo to replace my GA-7DX+ AMD751 chipset.

Well anyway there's some really weird problems.

1: The monitor shakes right after the POST screen, and it'll even shake while in the BIOS, but is steady for the POST screen so it's not the monitor, i don't understand.

2: the CPU temp is actually lower than room temp, i know i got a good air cooler on there but it's not that great.

3: Can't seem to find my boot Harddrive when booting, it shows in BIOS but won't boot from it.

4: won't detects my old 5400rpm quantum 15Gigger as slave, doesn't see anything there.

5: And it'll allow me to change the multiplier ect even tho i never unlocked my chip. I haven't fooled with it yet but will it work? Or will it not boot?

Thanks for your time!

1) Old monitor? May be a refresh rate issue?

2) Innacurate reading, most likely.

3 & 4) Ick! Had this happen to me before years back. Probably due to differences in IDE Controller and vastly different specs. Not sure how to get around it, but if you can throw them into your old system and backup your important stuff to something, that would be wise. That said:
a) try switching the IDE cable connectors between the drives
b) make sure you are using an ATA 133 IDE cable and not your old ATA 33/66(or whatever it was)
c) check jumpers on hard drives. Swith from Master/Slave to Auto or Vice-versa(try either way)
d) If these don't work, you likely need to wipe both drives clean(Fdisk) and re-partition. 🙁

5) It is my belief that Thoroughbred "b" chips don't require "unlocking" on that mobo. For some reason.

well for #1 i reseated the AGP card it the shaking stopped, must not have been in there all the way.

#2 i still have no idea

#3 having all sorts of problems with WinXP booting, i tried a recovery of my old installation, and on reboot it crashed and saved memory to disk.

#4 i reseated the cable/power and it was OK

#5 when i get it running it's OC time!

the nforce2 chipset automatically unlocks the processor so you can mess with the settings. Its not some freak board you have - its called advancement of technology making our lives eaiser 🙂

Re: 3 Did you try the Repair(not recover) install from a WinXP CD boot? To do so, don't select Repair at the first screen, goto next screen and select Repair there.

yep thats what i did, but i got it to work i had to do it twice for some weird reason i dun really understand.

Buuut now the screen is shaking again, it was never fixed. At POST it's teady and at WinXP/booting it shakes. Weird eh?

It's a great board , takes a little time to get aquainted with it ... glad to see she's getting friendlier...😀

It is a great board, running my 1600+ @ 1.75Ghz ohhhh yea! The OC'in fun will never stop. Screen STILL shakes at BIOS, but not at desktop. And MBM5 reads temps fine but bios sees them as like 50F or 15C
