New Mobo, and sound card?

Hello,

I had a thread where I planned on building a new machine. I have a couple more quick questions.

I plan on purchasing the 8800GTX/GTS (not sure what the diff is off the top of my head).
Anywho, I originally planned on going for the following for a mobo:

EVGA NVIDIA® nForce? 680i SLI
Socket LGA775 ATX Motherboard

However, I don't think I will step up to SLI in all probability, and ill stick with the 1 vid card. So would this be a good replacement mobo?

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Intel® P965 Express
Socket LGA775 ATX Motherboard

Also, I am purchasing 7.1 surround sound speakers (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16836116153). Is the 7.1 surround support on the mobo good enough, or should I spring for a sound card? If so, which?

Thanks!

I'd say try onboard first before getting a soundcard for those.

Also, 5.1 vs 7.1 isn't really a big deal, especially if you can't set it up well. I've seen way too many people with the speakers all in front of them on their desk 😛

Do you have room to properly set these up so you only have three in front, two to the side, and two behind you?

5.1 ok, but 7.1 is gimmick. Personally I would invest my $90 in a good pair 2.1s.

The onboard sound should be fine; I would only consider a stand alone sound card after investing $200-300 in a good set of speakers.

Well I have room for speakers in the front and behind me. I dont have room on the sides, at least not directly. I can go about 45 degrees to the side. The speakers are relatively cheap, and im pretty big on good sound. Ive been considering moving my computer desk to take advantage of the sound, I just havent figures out where yet 🙂 Well I do, I just hate moving furniture, ugh.

What about the motherboard? Id be more than happy to drop $100 bucks off the cost if I dont plan on going SLI, which I do not really.

I haven't really been keeping up with the new intel motherboards. If you don't plan on SLI though, that's certainly a good option to drop.

As long as you don't plan to have them all lined up in front of you, then go ahead with a surround sound set.

I own those 7.1 creative speakers, they put out great sound, but I cannot get the two side speakers to work, I know they work, but I think its either my sound card (augility 2 ZS) or something with the settings, I've tryed everything I can think of but I cant get them to work.

Creative's method of getting 7.1 out of three jacks it pretty messed up.

Are you sure you have everything connected right, Clevee?
