I have a new Gigabyte Z270X-UD3 with vengeance ram 3600 MHZ, but it seem to be set to 2100mHZ in bios

is it safe to set it higher, and how go I go this in the bios

I really would like it to be higher, but I don't want to much heat either

I'm surprised that nobody has answered this yet. Maybe you're in a different time-zone, so you only posted it in the last few hours relative to mine.

Do you feel uneasy about entering the BIOS and changing settings? There should be an option to choose "XMP" settings for RAM. There should be an option in addition to that one to set the RAM speed. there should probably be a drop-down list-box to select the speed you want, from 2100 Mhz to settings above 3000 -- perhaps 3200, 3333 and higher. The XMP setting should fix the latency timings to the spec for the Vengeance RAM matching the speed of 3600, and it should set the voltage probably to 1.35V.

I'm working with a Z170 ASUS board myself, but these things should be straightforward options for a Z270 chipset and board.

I don't see why there would be any trouble setting the Corsair Vengeance RAM to its specifications. I prefer G.SKILL kits, but I have one machine using Corsair, which I'd used in the past for at least a couple systems. You could look at customer reviews of your RAM to see if people had trouble setting the RAM to its published spec, just to get an idea if there are hurdles or issues. But there shouldn't be any . . .

Here's the RAM "OC" specs for your motherboard:

DDR4 3866(O.C.)/ 3800(O.C.)/ 3733(O.C.)/ 3666(O.C.)/ 3600(O.C.)/ 3466(O.C.)/ 3400(O.C.)/ 3333(O.C.)/ 3300(O.C.)/ 3200(O.C.)/ 3000(O.C.)/ 2800(O.C.)/ 2666(O.C.)/ 2400(O.C.)/ 2133

You should not have any trouble with this. Just choose the XMP profile and the spec RAM speed of 3600 . . .

Yep like BonzaiDuck mentioned just enable the XMP profile for your ram in the BIOS and you should be good to go. At least that is how I did it on my Z170 Asrock mainboard and the ram speed went from stock to 3000.

how do I configure Bios to use CSM, or UEFI depending on HD?

the Mobo manual is rubbish

I don't see how to enable UEFI in the video

over clocking looks easy

I have a hd I have tried 2 different ways to change from MBR to GPT, and the drive on boot, says no bootable drive found

I think this is that uefi is not set/enabled in the bios

I tried the conversion, and got

MBR2GPT: Attempting to convert disk 0
MBR2GPT: Retrieving layout of disk
MBR2GPT: Validating layout, disk sector size is: 512 bytes
MBR2GPT: Trying to shrink the OS partition
Cannot find room for the EFI system partition.
MBR2GPT: Conversion failed

I have shrink the main partition, added a 128MB partition and then converted the drive to GPT before
but the drive would not boot

is there a way to re-install the upgrade windows 10, and convert to GPT

I am really stuck

Hope you aren't in a hurry. It results in lost opportunities and mistakes.

I went through all of these little miseries over a matter of weeks. But my objective was more complicated: I wanted a dual-boot system with Win 7 and Win 10 using GPT and UEFI. I had already installed both OSes on an MBR, so that's where I started.

I simply used a feature of EaseUS Partition Master, although I am sure that working with the linked procedure with Windows 10 Advanced Options might have worked equally well. But that got me a dual-boot configuration on MBR partitions and volumes that worked properly.

If all of the "System Reserved" and "UEFI" partition stubs are still on the disk, and if the disk has the Win 10 boot-system volume intact, try a free utility like Macrium Reflect to fix a boot problem from a bootable Win PE CD. Another possibility is Mini-Tool, but I think you have to buy it for something around $25.

I emphasize that it is absolutely imperative to assure a correct configuration within BIOS for CSM and Windows UEFI.

I have tried dos and Easy partition tool

HD will not boot!!

I wish I'd taken more thorough notes when I went through my own misery. I had to do certain things:

I think I had to enable CSM.

I had to DISABLE "Secure Boot". On my board, this required deleting one of the Secure Boot keys -- I think it was called "PK." Somebody can correct me.

I had to ENABLE UEFI Windows Support or something worded like that.

This was all done on a path that began with Windows 7 installed on an MBR partition and legacy features set/enabled in BIOS. I added the Windows 10 as dual boot on this same MBR disk. I NEEDED GPT for some reason, or thought I did. So I had to convert the entire enchilada. I was able to do it without reinstalling Windows of either flavor.

I have installed windows 10 on a 3TB drive, and it should have installed it as GPT
it did not
I converted it to GPT using paragon clone, and was able to enlarge the partition to 2.7TB ..so it is GPT

When I boot I set the 3tb to the boot drive, and it boots right pat it to the MBT 2tB drive

something is a miss here in Bios?? it is Gigabyte Z270X-UD3 mobo

I just recently installed a new NVMe drive in my m.2 slot on my AsRock board. The drive was 480gb in size so considerably smaller than yours. I used a Win10 Pro retail usb stick for the fresh install. When I entered my bios I had to select the correct boot option for gpt. I don't remember exactly but it was along the lines of "UEFI Win10 boot" or something like that. Once I selected that option Win10 installed using gpt.

I actually did it wrong the first time and had to install over again. I didn't select the proper boot option on the usb stick so Win10 installed as mbr.
