I went from Iwill KK266a to A7n8x dlx and instead of formatting I just repaired the winXP install. I also changed vid cards from nvidia to ati and the processor from t-bird to barton and the memory from pc133 to pc3200. All my programs worked and I had to install the nforce drivers to get lan and sound. Of course I can only get sound from my analog headphones and not my digital speakers (but thats a different story) The system doesnt seem to run as smooth as it should so I think I know the answer but I would like some input. Should I go back and reformat the HD and then reinstall the drivers?

its not a price thing...its a hassle issue. I have a bunch of stuff installed and would have to go back and redo everything. Is it worth it?

I'd say that there is significant enough system changes to warrant a complete reinstall of all apps and drivers. You're likely to see a big improvement in speed and stability by doing this.

Also, if I might. You might want to find/use one the many remix drivers for the NF2 chipset. I have my own personal remix that I use, it is based on the 3.13 UDP and it has been modified to contain the older ethernet driver from the 2.45 UDP and the newest audio drivers to hit the net (ver. 3.75). This has proven to be the best combo of drivers for my board yet. It might even fix your speaker problem.

Now you are speaking my language ;)

May I get a copy of those remix drivers? I figured it would be worth the fresh install. Now my question is what order do i reinstall drivers? I will onlyhave the chip, ram and vid card connected with a dvd drive and 2 hd's.

I'm at work right now so I can't email them to you at this moment. I can later though. I might have to bust them up into to parts if they exceed 5MB though (Cox limitation).

As for what order to install, I can answer that right now.

Install WinXP.
Install WinXP SP1a.
Install UDP remix I'll try to provide later tonight.
Install DX 9.0b.
Install video card drivers.
Install all other apps.

Shoot me a PM with your email address so I can send the remix to you.

sweet thanks.

Click my avatar for my profile...my email is in there. Will SP1 cover dx9 or is it separate?

Let me know when you can send it cuz if I dont get it before I reformat then I wont have internet connection to get it. Unless I can install the 3com drivers I got off asus site for the 3com port on the board without it being a problem.

DX 9.0 is a separate install. You can either download the complete program or use Windows Update to get it.

And I won't be able to send the drivers until later this evening. My sister and brother-in-law are celebrating birthdays this week so we (the entire clan) are going out for dinner tonight. I'll be in later to send them if you can hold off 'til later.

well...the fresh intall seems to make things more stable but still cant get sound out of the digital speakers. The headphones give out sound so it cant be a driver situation. I used the drivers you sent but I had those audio drivers already. Thanks for the help.

Cant figure this audio issue. Im gonna take a pair of speakers here from work and see if they work, they arent digital so if that works then its a digital problem. Its drivin me crazy. I cant use headphones all the time. My wife loves the idea tho.

1 other thing...going into device manager it was showing a question mark on the usb controller and the raid controller..i got the usb fixed but there is still a raid problem Have any drivers for that? The Asus site only has them listed for linux. Im not using raid so i dont really need to resolve it but I would like to just for piece of mind.
