Update! Works fine now! See post 14 for resolution!

Well, I was able to pick up an MSI z77a gd65 and a 3770K from frys. Unfortunately, I can't get the combo to post. At first i thought it might be a RAM issue. I had 4 out of 6 sticks from my corsair vengeance kit in the motherboard, and I tried it down to 1 stick, but no luck.

I tried clearing cmos and removing cmos battery, etc, no luck there. Symptoms of the board are it tries to turn on for a few seconds, then resets in a boot loop. no numbers are seen on the little LED display.

I tried taking everything out but 1 stick of ram(rated 1.5v) the CPU and stock fan, connected vga monitor to the integrated, but still no post or picture or anything, just the reboot cycle.

I am thinking that I just have a bad board, but is it possible that it isnt compatible with ram that is designed for x58 chipset? I tried a stick from both the vengeance and the supertalent, both rated for 1.5 v.

I believe MSI had 2 bios updates for the CPU, so that is where I would start as well.

I doubt BIOS update will fix this. Seems like Gigabyte doesnt like that MSI. Do BIOS upgrade as they said for both mobo and video card.. try both ports diff cables problem. gl

MSI seems to be a hit or miss. I would take it their tech dept and tell them the combo won't post.

Try moving the single stick of DDR3 to each of the other slots. I would tend to doubt the idea that the Z77 board wouldn't work with an Ivy Bridge CPU installed, unless it's been sitting in storage somewhere since March, 2012.
More likely: a memory compatibility problem. Update the bios as soon as the board's bios can be accessed.
Also: check that the CPU fan is connected to the correct CPU fan connector.

At first I was going to say "Don't flash that BIOS with the CPU that the BIOS was meant to make compatible!" But it's a Z77 board. Those boards should've been Ivy-Bridge-ready from the gitgo.

I'm just guessing that it's the RAM. Did you say it was a triple-channel kit for an X58 chipset? I'm just guessing. If you could only find a single stick of G.SKILL RipJaws, or borrow one -- you could test it if the stick was known to be a good one . . .

Interesting I will try taking it to frys to see if they have some ram that will make it work, or I will exchange the board if that is the issue.

Update!

When removing the CPU to inspect the pins, the CPU top came off. This, coupled with the broken seal upon receiving the box, lead me to believe that someone had improperly delidded it, returned it, and frys put it right back in the cage! Not even an orange return sticker on it :O

So, I took it back, got an even exchange, everything works fine now. I didn't even have to reinstall windows somehow. I did have to reactivate it by phone though.

4 of the 6 sticks are in the new board now, working just fine. I will try tweaking setting later.

I will also post load temps later, under water.

check post 14 tweakboy, read the thread :D

also, at stock settings, IBT maxes 68 on hottest core, AVX and HT on. Anyone can confirm if these are decent load temps for water? Vcore was about 1.05 V under load.
