New MMORPG on the horizon..Dark and Light

Been waiting for this game for awhile, and now that beta is going to open up soon, I hope I get in 🙂 It looks like another medieval MMORPG ala DAOC. Looks like a blend of D&D too.. Screenies look great as well, though maybe its just me but I get the impression that the site was hastily thrown together.

Some people seem to think the game is being released in November, as you can see, the date has been changed to April.

They are having a partial "open beta" type thing starting next month that will allow everyone to explore a small part of the whole world and the devs to see how their servers handle more people on them. Closed beta on the full world will continue in addition to the open beta on the smaller world.
.

Actually what is being released in the next few days is a prelude (SOG) that is free to play for 6 months. It is not a beta test or stress test yet is free to play. The idea is that the 6 months will be a chance for players to populate the world with fortresses, trade and so on so when the full release (D&L) comes in April it is already an established living breathing world.

Geez, their website looks like it was something made with Nuke.

Well geez the game must suck then

I mean look at EQ2 they have an awesome website full of flash and stuff and their game rock...... err no hang-on

The world looks big and empty. Sort of like Shadowbane. And after playing Shadowbane, I felt like I should have some real world benefit to all the running I was doing.

Thanks for the post, I went ahead and signed up to try this out. I'm bored of Wow and not going back, too many good games out right now but I still need some small RPG fix.
😉

You are are obviously a man of good taste if you are a paul oakenfold fan, but vandyke?? 🙁

Give me sasha any day 😛

Alas I am suffering the opposite of you.... absolutely no game is really any fun to me at the moment. I battered WoW to death long ago, I strike up the odd game of BF2 but get sadly bored by it's point whores, Eve Online is resting at the moment, all thats been released recently are shite rehashes like COD2 and Q4..... I need something new and something deep and challenging.... D&L if living up to half it's promise looks like it could be it!

What part of the world have you seen? Are you in Beta?

Gratz on post 7000 btw 🙂

Oh I was just basing that on the site screenshots. It shows a lot of pictures of a really big empty world. And wow, 7000, I'm getting too close to lifer 🙂

And I'm getting my RPG fix from Fire Emblem. It is completely awesome.

This is a game I have been waiting on for awhile. I am looking forward to the prelude starting in Novemeber and hope the game turns out as good as advertised.

Can you give me three reasons why this game sounds worth while?

No zones. You can run across the map through forests and towns with no loading time or instant change in scenery. Plus, you get an impressive viewing distance

world-wide weather system

Build your own forts and build your own economy with one of the several jobs in the 'Politician' field

Thats all I can think of. The best aspects of EVE + Wow basically

Can you give me three reasons why this game sounds worth while?

1. Players influence the game world
2. 1 single server
3. Great looking economy
4. Worthwhile pvp based on taking and owning parts of the map.
5. Player owned structures
6. Player placed structures
7. Huge game world
8. Migrating mob spawns that are based on food, seasons, and danger from predators
9. Full blown weather system based on seasons and actual weather patterns
10. Character development looks spectacular.
11. Game isnt scripted like many others *cough* WoW *cough*
12. Very open ended, can be a fighter, politician, or create a business
13. Outlaws, great idea for gankers of lowbies.

Those read like things "Horizons" boasted yet failed to deliver. As well as players inventing tools and all living things reproducing instead of spawning..

Maybe except Horizons was never billed as a pvp game but simply PVE.

Sasha is a good dj and artist, I have seen him once and it's the only time I danced til 7am in the morning. 🙂 Haven't seen Van Dyk yet, seen Oakie twice, but I don't like what he's been doing since bunkka. I've taken more onto Van Dyk lately, for some reason he's catching my soul like the music did for me back in 99-00 that and he's a great artist imo, Essential mixes from that time period are liquid gold, I really need to inventory what I have.
😀
I'm looking forward to reading more about D&L. Did I read correctly that you can be an evil paladin? I haven't read how the alignment works yet but I did my profile as evil, I'm assuming it will be a DnD style alignment?

there was an article saying that scientists were making artificial intelligent characters then putting them in a society (game) to see how they live and respond. This game is like exactly that, the first peoples that play this game (the open beta and the month of the release) make this game. This can be a GREAT game if there's no lag...
