Hi,
I am going to assemble a new system for gaming, fun, work etc.
I have been looking at the 8800 GT to power the 22" 1680x1050 resolution LCD. This should be sufficient to play games like Oblivion, UT3 etc. And the prices are good ATM.

But I have read that the next gen of ATI/Nv cards are close to release june-august timeframe or so.. but my question is, will it be another high-end release with very high priced cards targeted for die hard gamers with high res screens?
Or does anyone know if midrange cards are also going to be released within the same time frame?!

Any info regarding imminent mid-range cards release are welcome.

If ATI/AMD follow the same pattern they did with the 3xx0 series, you can probably expect the midrange 4850 and 4870 cards to launch first, followed by the 44x0 and 46x0 cards later, with the 4870X2 bringing up the rear.

If Nvidia follows their typical pattern, they'll launch the high end cards first, wait 3 to 4 months, then launch a higher clocked version of the high end card with a 30% higher price tag, then 4 months after that they'll launch a couple of crippled 'midrange' cards. And a few months after that, they'll launch a few non crippled, decent midrange cards. At least, that is what they did with the 7 series and 8 series cards.

Welcome to the forums!

A tip: this place is full of people (like me) hungry for the latest news on new video card releases. So your thread topic makes people (like me) think you have some hot new news item to share, not that you're asking for info yourself. ;)

Hi Magren,
Yes I realised that my topic title can be misleading.. should have included a questionmark in the title :)

Bateluer,
Thanks for the response. I am not going to wait another 6-12 month for a next gen midrange product, so I might as well jump the gun on either the ASUS EN9600GT top factory OC'ed, or the 8800 GT 512MB.

All i need now is an online place to find these cards at a good price.

I have heard about Newegg and Zipzooomfly's. Another other online sites you may recommend?

Thx, in advance

AMD's next midrange card is rumored to be released next month, with the higher/enthusiast card in June. As for nVidia, those rumors are all over the place so it is hard to know what they are doing.
