new mb with new chipset issue

QueBert

was having tons of problems with a new mb+cpu I bought. posted another message about that, but this is regarding the chipset. the old mb was an NF2, the new is an NF3 250. I got xp to install on a 40 gig. I remember there is a way to go threw the recovery console and have windows resort to the default drivers. I'm getting the STOP message that points to a HD issue 000007b. I have fixed systems in the past with new chipsets without a clean install. I know a clean install is always ideal, but I'd love to be able to save this persons programs and settings with a repair install.

thanks

lots of good info there, but seems to be for people who can get into windows and run Sysprep before the MB swap. I had a MB die and the new one has a new chipset. Also the repair install doesn't cut it. I'm needing to remove/copy files directly in the recovery console. I know this is possible (have done it) with almost 100% success, but I can't find any damn links on google, my searching skills blow 🙁
