New MB w/PCI-e or Brand Spanking new rig?

Man I really don't know what to do. Are their better motherboards that support pci-e than what i currently got? If i kept all my system bought a new MB w/pci-e and got a X1900XT/7950GX2. Or build a new rig w/a Core 2 Duo e6700. Would it really be a that huge increase in overall performance? And worth spending that 2,000-2,500? All feedback would be most appreciated ....
I'm not sure if I want to replace the currenty rig I have cause other than my VC going out it runs like a champ....PLEASE HELP

I'm intending to go from a 3400+ (socket 754) to an e6600. I really want some better multitasking ability, and I figure going dual core is the way to get it. Should also be an overall improvement in just about anything else too. I'm spending about 1.1-1.5k on my system though.

My system's are strictly for gaming purposes only. I don't know if upgrading my full system is needed yet. My 3400+ is still performing like a champ. But the e6700 does look quite intriguing. Though I've never built a Intel based rig.

If you don't need dual core, just get a PCI-e s754 mobo & an X1900XT or whatever (keep in mind the 7950GX2 won't likely have mobo support in s754).

If you do wish to go dual core, then get the E6600 & PCI-e mobo & video card.

 Sounds like a good plan to me.
