New MB w/o Re-installing WinXP

Hi All,

The last time I upgraded my computer with a new motherboard and chipset (KT133 to nForce2), I was able to save my WinXP installation and everything has been working like a champ for two or three years.

I did it by making sure I had the proper drivers loaded onto the HD and then I did the swap, booted into safe mode, deleted all my hardware and then let WinXP re-discover my hardware.

I had instructions for this and it worked great. Now, I can't find any instructions to do this out there on the web. I find ways to do it that involve letting WinXP repair the install, but it repairs by going back to the original WinXP CD which means all hotfixes, etc. are wiped out.

Can anybody help me out with a link or some advice in case I have to try it based on memory? (I will be ghosting the disk before I attempt the switcharoo.)

Thanks.

Best way I know how in Win2K/XP is to use MS sysprep and use the -mini -reseal command then shutdown swap out the board.

Thanks to Anandtech's archive, I found the article I was looking for. If anybody is interested, it is here.
