New MB and OS, Jitter and Lag

I just built a new Box consisting of

Asus AM3 Mobo M4A78T-E
AMD Quad Proc 620
2x2G RAM
Existing 8800GT (MSI OC
Using Win7RC (Build 7100)

Everything seemed to fire up fine. Ran Burnin test through all cycles and got no errors, incliuding memory, RAM and HD at 100% for a couple 15 min cycles each.

I am running an ethernet cable connection through wall plug adapters to a FIOS router to the net, so Wifi isn't an issue.

Surfing and downloading seem generally OK, but when i log into a lag and jitter sensitive online game (BZFlag), I get high levels of lag and Jitter, making the game unplayable.

Ran a VOIP test at visialware and got 2.7-3.2 MS of jitter. I got no jitter at all testing my laptop with the same connection. Speed check yields 4.5 MBps down and 4.2 up.

I'm probably going to back down to XP Pro, but I'm wondering if the hardware could possibly be culprit. If so, I need to figure out how to verify the problem before going through an RMA for the MB.

Burnin test

Machine seemed to run OK with Win 7, though the game I was playing wasn't happy. I installed XP Pro last night, and I still need to clean up the details to test it (Patching the OS with the SPs and updating the drivers to be happy with the newer HW in the box).

Is there a reason that an Ethernet port would run, but not run properly? I'd think that it would be a binary, work-broken kind of thing. Beyond that, I figured there was a compatability problem with the game and Win7, but I want to rule out the MB during the return period.

I will get to BZFlag.org when I get time to post to the forums there, though there seem to be happy Win7 users.

When I used Windows 7 RC (7100), I had an issue with my onboard NIC as well. It would stutter terribly. I disabled it and added a different more well supported NIC (an Intel NIC), and my stuttering issue went away. When I went back to Windows Vista and re-enabled the onboard NIC, it worked fine. That tells me that the issue is driver related. I bet you are having the same issue using Windows 7 RC.

Thanks for a confirmation. I suspected something driver related. though I also fear that XP is old enough that I will still be chasing NIC drivers. We'll see how things go later.
