new maxtor SATA with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum not working

Hey there again. I finally got the k8N Neo2 platinum flashed to bios version 1.4. But once I installed my new Maxtor DiamondMax9 SATA drive. The Bios recognizes the drive but it won't get past the boot screen and sometime I can get in to the bios. But nothing after that. I have even tried useing my old IDE drive with windows on it, but it only works if I don't have the SATA deattached. I went to diagnose the hard drive using Maxtor PowerMax diagnose software but still will not get past the boot screen. Any ideas? I am stuck.

Have you got SATA ports enabled in the BIOS? Put the drive in SATA slot 3 or 4? The NF3 chipset recognizes SATA drives, so you don't have to install special drivers if it's a single drive (NOT RAID).

Make sure you are only using a SATA drive, as I've read that Windows wants to assign any IDE drive the C: drive letter, and boot from it, even if it has no O/S on it. Once you have the SATA drive with an OS on it, you should be able to attach an IDE hard drive.

What OS are you using? Win2000/XP ought to recognize it. My Neo2 Platinum manual says that Win98/Me won't work with SATA drives.

Try with only one memory stick in slot 1, also.

Hope that helps a little.
