New Maxtor SATA pci card install needs ptipbm.dll file

I am installing a SATA 200GB HD. It came with a SATA card which I have to install first before I hook up the drive. I followed the manual and pointed to the cdrom that came with te product. It started to copy files form the cd and then all of a sudden its asking for ptipbm.dll

It's not anywhere on my install drive (inf, system32, etc) and its not on the cdrom either.

Now I found someone else with a similar problem but his solution isn't too detailed.

Problem fixed! Yeahhh! Had to go to Passion Technologies website for the drivers. Maxblast was on the CD that came with the HDD. Once I got the dll file that I needed, I was able to partition and am currently formatting it as I type. Yee haa (Go Seahawks!!)

I think hemeans "Promise Technologies" instead of Passion technologies

any help would be greatly appreciated guys

ON the Promise Technologies website, I downloaded the SATA150 TX Windows Driver and inside the zip file is the file I am looking for. However. I am not installing it yet. I would like to see some feedback because I don't like randomly using dll's from other sites. I can't seem to find anything on Maxtor's site.

I don't know which model you have, hopefully this helps.

Therein lies the problem. I had no advanced notice of this issue. Therefore, I didn't really look at the card. It just says maxtor on it. I have no idea as to what kind of a card this is. There's no documentation other than a basic setup manual.

I assume what you have is the Maxtor drive that staples had for $70 this week. I'm sure many other AT'ers got this drive.... someone tell us what model the SATA controller card is!

Yep that's one I got...I edited the title of the thread to reflect that

I'm surprised no one else ran into this issue...or maybe everyone else just went to promise technologies

okay I think I have it figured out...Promise Technology only offers a TX2 plus and a TX4 Sata 150 driver. The TX4 appears to be for 4 ports and the Tx2 plus appears to be for 2 ports (my case). Wish me luck
