New Maximus Formula Won't Boot

I just got a new Maximus Formula. It will power up, cpu fan spins, but it won't post. It won't even initialize the video. I plugged in the little debugging device that comes with it. It does cpu init, then det dram but then hangs up at test cmos. Anybody know what this might be caused by? Any Ideas?

Asus Maximus Formula
Intel E8400 3 ghz
Asus EAD3870 Video
OCZ DDR2 6400 2 x 2gb
Zalman 9700LED

I don't know the bios revision but aren't these boards supposed to support the new 45nm processors? It goes past the cpu init at power on.

Thanks

well, you cleared the first two hurdles (CPU and RAM were detected). Have you tried clearing the CMOS using the button on the back of the board?

I looked at the other thread...

I had a grounding problem when I first got my board, but it wouldn't get past CPUINIT. You, on the other hand, make it as far as testing CMOS.

The BIOS revision sounds like a likely suspect... you will need to plop in an older CPU to do the BIOS update. Good luck.

Pretty sure it takes a 9x series bios to get these to work w/ the E8xxx series core 2's I had a Xeon 3060 (E6600) on 802 and 802 wouldn't post w/ my E8400 I then went to 907 and it works fine, currently @ 9x 450

I agree with the above poster, it depends on what BIOS revision you have I believe, if you have the older one your not going to have out of the box support for 45nm processors, you need to latest stable revision. I'd also check to make sure your motherboard didn't come with the cmos clear jumper on the wrong pins; someone had the happen to them once.

The Maximus uses a slide switch. It is in the proper position. Trust me, it has gotten some use, hehe. Thanks for the suggestion, little things like that sometimes kill you if you miss them.
Thanks, any other ideas greatly appreciated.

I finally got it to post. I went to a local computer shop this morning and bought a Celeron D for about $45. I was able to post and flash the bios to 0907. It came with version 0401 on board. It recognized the E8400 now. I will finish the build over the next day or so. Thanks for the help.

Pretty annoying that you have to spend $45 to get it to the most current BIOS. Oh well, now you have the beginnings of a new HTPC.

Glad that it worked out for you in the end.

I decided not to remove the processor from this box to flash the new system It is a Asus P5W DH Deluxe with a E6750 on it. I built this one last May and it has run flawlessly. I just didn't want to mess with it. Plus, I didn't want to have both systems down at once, in case I run into further problems.
