New Machine - Please help me pick CPU

I know this is a bad time to be purchasing a rig with SB around the corner but I really can't wait. Long story...

Need to purchase early Nov, then upgrade to SB Nov/Dec next year. Ideally, this would be a CPU upgrade only. So is this possible? Are there (good) MoBos avail today that will accept an SB when it comes out. Ideally, looking to for a i930 chip to upgrade to SB variation ~1 year from now...

I've been following loosely over the past few months and the MoBo/CPU situation seems rather complex.

Please advise. Thanks.

SB is a different socket, so I'm pretty sure anything you buy now that doesn't come with an SB chip wouldn't be running an SB in the future either.

EDIT TO ADD : It's not that bad, really. If you get an i7 920 (and if you overclock that, or if at stock only, one of the higher models) it won't really need much upgrading 1 year later anyway.

What is your usage? For games, you can't beat a Core i5 750/760 (best gaming CPU bar none). If you want to do video work/rendering, AMD 1055. For an Intel mobo, Gigabyte P55A-UD3P or Asus P7P55D-E.

If you have a Microcenter or Fry's near you, you may want to consider a Phenom X4 955/965 with a free mobo for a great budget build.

If you want to use an i930 then you HAVE to get an X58 board, its the only platform which supports them.

The good news is the succesor to this won't be available until Fall 2011 so you've got a year to go.
